November 2, 200916 yr http://www.presstelegram.com/moresports/ci_13692288 A baseball insider says the club has been contacted by an American League team that is interested in Manny Ramirez if the team will pay part of his $20 million salary for 2010. It's a team that plays in a very mediocre division, has a few team officials familiar with Ramirez, and always needs a bump in notoriety. Would be interesting if it was the Sox.
November 2, 200916 yr Author Heading should have had a question mark. My bad. Mods, can you change that?
November 2, 200916 yr "It's a team that plays in a very mediocre division" - Central "has a few team officials familiar with Ramirez" - Who on the Sox? "and always needs a bump in notoriety" - You could argue the notoriety is in reference to a Cub centric town. Interesting, but not enough to make me think White Sox.
November 2, 200916 yr I could also see it being Detroit. They don't seem to mind lazy malcontents up there.
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) I could also see it being Detroit. They don't seem to mind lazy malcontents up there. I dot think there is anyway they can afford him. They have a hefty payroll and an economically depressed city.

November 2, 200916 yr Author I think it could be an AL west team too, like the Mariners or A's. They both could use the offense. Not sure if I'd call that division mediocre though.

November 2, 200916 yr MLB: "Stop putting those needles in your arm" Manny: "Why can I only hit the ball 150 feet all of a sudden?"
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) MLB: "Stop putting those needles in your arm" Manny: "Why can I only hit the ball 150 feet all of a sudden?" It's funny how him and Ortiz got away with it.
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) It's funny how him and Ortiz got away with it. And the soon to be WS winning 3rd baseman.

November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) It's Cleveland. I agree. Who in our organization could be familiar with Manny? Yes that's rhetorical haha
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) And the soon to be WS winning 3rd baseman. I meant that Manny and Ortiz weren't vilified as brutally as A-Rod.
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) I meant that Manny and Ortiz weren't vilified as brutally as A-Rod. Manny took a 50 game suspension. He paid his price. Manny will never take as much heat from the fans, simply because we all know he is already nuts. It's kind of like trying to scream at a small child. If you know it's not really getting through to them, why bother?
November 2, 200916 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) I meant that Manny and Ortiz weren't vilified as brutally as A-Rod. That's because a lot of people believe that A-Rod's an image-obsessed, contrived phony. David Ortiz has the type of personality that's almost impossible to dislike, and nobody knows what banned substance he tested positive for. For all we know, he may have just continued to pop greenies or take something sold at GNC. Manny also had a long and very impressive resume of post-season success by the time that he signed with Boston (and continued playing at a high level thereafter). Right or wrong, being a bad-ass in the playoffs can mitigate a number of sins. Edited November 2, 200916 yr by WCSox

I think.
November 2, 200916 yr I don't think it would happen, but at a reduced price I'd love to see Manny on the South Side for a season. He's still quite beastly. I don't really think the Dodgers would try to move him, though.
