November 9, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) To play where? 1B, move Konerko to DH. Another left handed bat that's a gap hitter.
November 9, 200916 yr I'd do it in a heartbeat. Those are two guys who will never sniff the majors. I am not sure why another team would even want those two to be honest.
November 9, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) I'd do it in a heartbeat. Those are two guys who will never sniff the majors. I am not sure why another team would even want those two to be honest. That would be getting rid of the last of the failed 1st rounders, plus I think the Jays are looking for a catcher. They had discussed a deal of Overbay to the D-Backs for Chris Snyder.
November 9, 200916 yr If Toronto was looking to shed salary, Overbay's $7 mill. would be one way. Yet they were looking at Chris Snyder, who is owed $11.25 mill. over the next 2 years!? Not sure if they want to add a decent catcher or shed salaries. It would likely mean more than Armstrong and McCulloch for Overbay, like say a bullpen arm like Nunez. If the sox added players, they could prob. have Tor. add in money to a deal. If the sox did move Konerko to DH, it might keep him healthier, which would also mean more productive at the plate. I do like the idea of adding in a lefty bat that can hit 30 + doubles as well as between 15-20 HR's.
November 9, 200916 yr a 26 year old catcher with a .287 obp in AAA last year and a 24 year old failed first rounder who barely breaks 90 mph and had a 4.58 ERA for a guy with a .372 obp last year (.363 career) with 51 extra base hits? sure sign me up...maybe toronto will throw in halladay too
November 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Just an idea that popped into my head, discuss... There is medication for that type of thing now
November 9, 200916 yr Overbay would be a nice fit and if the Jays are cutting salary I could see it making sense. I'm not sure if we'd get him for the parties mentioned though.
November 9, 200916 yr I can't see Toronto dumping Overbay for those two, but if we offered a guy like Retherford, we'd probably be able to snag him.
November 9, 200916 yr I'd take Casey Kotchman instead. He'd cost less, is younger and could probably outproduce Overbay.
November 9, 200916 yr It doesn't sound like we even have $7M to spend in the first place, but if we did, I damn sure wouldn't spend it on Lyle Overbay. Give them some prospects and Linebrink or no deal IMO.
November 9, 200916 yr PS what is it with the Sox and all this "gap hitter" nonsense? This team needs some f***ing power. We already have the King of Gap Hitters and we just moved him to 2B.
November 9, 200916 yr I think i'm going to make an earnest effort at getting McCulloch's autograph this spring. My Broadway efforts were a spectacular failure last year, and i figure i might as well give it another go. Oh, Kyle if only you were a lefty, you might have an undeserved, but serious chance of making this team.

We already have the King of Gap Hitters and we just moved him to 2B. I'm assuming the theory is that gap hitters will be more consistent than homerun hitters and the Sox need more consistency at the plate. Just my assumption. November 9, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Overbay by month this last season, BA then OPS: April .250/.903 May .294/.861 June .246/.889 July .227/.684 Aug .329/.937 Sept. .242/.763 You killed the thread with your bloody statistics! To be fair though, I think he was platooning with Kevin Millar a lot this past season.
November 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) If you throw in Linebrink, maybe they also send a moderate prospect back with Overbay? I don't think Linebrink has any positive value. On the open market he'd probably get 2/$5M or less, but his contract still pays him 2/$10.5M. I wonder if the Jays would do something like Linebrink + Santeliz + Infante + $2M in 2011 for Overbay.

We already have the King of Gap Hitters and we just moved him to 2B. Because gap hitters will hit more HRs at the Cell, while HR hitters won't necessarily hit more doubles.
November 9, 200916 yr Overbay is a 7+ million dollar, 32 year old, first baseman who has a career .812 OPS, he really doesnt have much value. He could probably find a place on the Sox, but I really wouldnt give up much for him at all, and a Linebrink and others type swap sounds fair.
