Meh, no thanks. I would rather take Lance Berkman since he will come much cheaper.

Who would you be willing to give up for Berkman?

True, but Fielder has one year of arb left after the current contract, so you'd get him for relatively cheap for a 2nd year. Berkman, I believe, has an expensive option for that next year.

Fielder is going to cost anywhere between $13-16 mill next year. Relatively speaking, yes, that is about 50-70% of the value he will get when he signs as a free agent, but that's still a very large number.

Becoming a vegetarian is a pretty big step to take.

Coop will fix him. :lolhitting :lolhitting :lolhitting

Don't you mean Herm Schneider?

Milwaukee is going to want starting pitching for Prince considering theirs is God awful, even Gallardo isn't what he used to be. In my honest opinion I think its going to take Floyd or Danks. You also then have to take into account that Fielder is going to be up for a big time raise in a couple of years. I don't think it's worth it.

Don't you mean Herm Schneider?

Yeah Herm can fix him but we always allude to Coop fixing everything so why not tubby??

Fielder is actually less desirable than either AGon or a lesser bat like Berkman or Hawpe because of his contract, his body, his agent, and his price in terms of talent.

I was alluding to the fact that both of them weigh about 430 lbs.

The whole premise is stupid. The Sox could trade for any player but what's left of the team after the trade?

Viciedo isn't going to interest, let alone excite, the Brewers. So, the Sox send Rios and Floyd to Milwaukee for him. Would the Sox be a better team ? Not at all.

The only way that KW makes a deal like that is with minor leaguers. And, the Sox have crap in the minors.

The Sox do have some pieces in the minors, depending on what MIL wants in exchange for 1.5 years of Fielder. Hudson struggled a lot in his last start but is still highly considered, Shirek looks good in AA, and there are some toolsy guys further down the line that might help a package. Add to that someone like Jordan Danks, and it starts to get into the right territory for a relatively expensive rental and the salary relief that MIL is seeking.

Where would he play?!

Seriously. What happens to Paulie? Do we shop him elsewhere in a 3 way deal? Or would he part of the deal and MIL can just let him go after this year?

You don't trade for Fielder so that he can play effective 1b defense. He's as ideal of a DH as there is in baseball.

Its Phil Rogers, but, I couldn't not post it. Enjoy.

If the Sox can actually manage to get back above .500 and in the race, then you can add Fielder to the A-Gon/Berkman/??? talks for the Sox. Of course, they still have a ways to go before they are even really in it again.

Thanks for the warning. Thread closed.

Do we leave Jones in the OF with Q and Rios and make Pierre a bench player? Sign me up.

At this point, yeah, you take your pick out of Q and Pierre who you bench.

The Red Sox have Lowell and Beltre at 3rd, Youkilis at 1b, Martinez and Ortiz, and a lot of them can rotate through the DH slot. But with Ortiz's struggles, its pretty obvious why they're involved in every talk involving a 1b bat.

Because Ortiz is washed up, Lowell's contract runs out at the end of this season, and they could certainly use another bat in the middle of their lineup after this season. They also have the money to allow both Lowell and Ortiz to remain on the bench, while the Sox do not have that luxury.

Well, if the Sox were to impose some weight restrictions on Fielder and he were limited in his meals, he may just devour Pierre as a seventh inning stretch snack. Problem solved.

With his noodle arm he might taste like fettuccine.

Ortiz's contract is also up after this year.

The Sox could try to sweeten a contract extention by promising to call him King Fielder in lieu of extra money.

It's going to take a lot more than Gavin Floyd to get Fielder. You can forget that one.

It begins and ends with JD1, in terms of any discussion.

Trading one of the top 3-5 young lefties in the game, when he's a lot cheaper than Fielder....and once again, he's LEFT-HANDED and OUR ACE, for a DH/1B/LF bat making more or less TWICE what Danks makes (over the next two seasons) is insanity. KW would be crazy to do that.

And there's a good possibility we have to chop $10-15 million from payroll, too.

That could come in the form of shedding Jenks and AJ with Paulie signing to a $13 million, 2 year deal with a 3rd option year included...but then we still have to deal with other players (like Danks and Pierre) bumping up in salary too.

Someone with good photoshop skills, please put together a photo of Pierre with noodle arm and Fielder salivating.

There is a 0.0% chance that any team would have to or will give up a young Ace for Fielder. Maybe thats what they want, but they wont get it. Someone like Buehrle or Hudson + is alot closer to what they would get.

So we're back to Hudson, Flowers and Jordan Danks/Morel again, just like the A-Gonz discussions, basically...

YES?

Buehrle + Jenks is probably the ideal package in terms of need for the Brewers. I just think that the ages and contracts of both players might turn the Brewers off.
