Dallas Braden (Oakland) Throws A Perfect Game vs Tampa Bay

Featured Replies

Great story, former Texas Tech ace and #3 hitter as well, awesome to see.

This being against Tampa is hilarious.

Didn't expect another one so soon though.

love this Braden guy. He's just got an amazing makeup. congrats to him.

well he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

I watched the last inning or so, and he reminded me a lot of Buerhle.

Similar type of pitcher. Mediocre at best fastball with a very good straight change.

Yeah, also a lefty who works quick.

Looks like that's the type of pitcher that cripples the Rays. For whatever reason...

Lost his mom as a teenager, grandmother then raised him, and pitched a perfect game against currently the best team in the league (possibly the whole season) on mother's day. Doesn't get any sweeter than that.

Fangraphs for the mothertruckin win

How unlikely was this performance? Dallas Braden, over the course of his career, had allowed 6.9 hits per 27 batters, 2.0 walks per 27 batters, and 0.2 reached on errors per 27 batters. Overall, that’s 9.1 runners allowed per 27 batters – his numbers for this season alone are similar. According to a basic binomial distribution, the odds of Braden allowing no runners in 27 batters, as he did on Sunday, are .00001517, or 0.001517%. Braden’s perfect game wasn’t quite one-in-a-million. It was more like 15.2 in a million.

Caught a neat stat on ESPN while at the gym. Paraphrasing, so I might have a number or two wrong, but the names are in the correct order.

Fewest swings and misses in a no-hitter:

Dallas Braden: 5

Mark Buehrle: 8

Jonathan Sanchez: 13

Mark Buehrle: ~15

Can we please stop interviewing grandma.
