Sox players are never really mentioned or, hell, noticed nationally. Even when Q was going apes*** in 2008... rarely heard a blurb about him until he fought his bat and the bat won.

Yeah I think Rios makes the team easily, but I also think he should be in the conversation when it comes to starting... especially more than Granderson, Gardner, or this Borbon dude. That's where the fans come into play. We as fans need to make sure that Rios gets as many votes as possible.

7 for 9 in stolen bases. Well above average defense at a premium position. Alex Rios, for all intents and purposes, has been the best all-around player in baseball to this point.

I think the Rangers are making the fans stuff the ballot boxes, to the point where they get a prize for stuffing it a lot. Kind of like what the Brewers have been doing.

I'll probably never vote on another all-star ballot until the MLB changes the rules or the name of the game....They are beyond ridiculous.

 

The game can't be "for the fans", and "count"... You gotta choose one or the other.

But right now, we don't know who those two teams will be. Any division leader could be one of those two teams, along with a lot of second place teams. I think it is a very important matter to at least half the teams in baseball.

But you have a chance to make it right by putting the right people in the game. This way, the fans get the best game and the best league wins the game.

We've stuffed boxes for the final vote repeatedly. We just right now haven't gotten enough reason to start caring.

 

Go on a 10 game winning streak and I might suddenly find motivation to start GOTV efforts.

Not sure about that, but I voted for him. He's my only All-Star White Sock. Ended up voting voting for Casey McGehee and Yadier Molina over Miguel Olivo. Sheesh AL's going to be better again.

8th in baseball in wOBA, 8th in UZR/150 (plays arguable the most important defensive position on on the field and is #1 at that position), 7th in SB and 2nd in WAR to a firstbaseman.

Look what has happened in recent All Star years - when a Sox player is in the final vote, they have done far better than they should have. The fan base comes out, and I can honestly say I think that SoxTalk and WSI helped that along. Get a few thousand crazies voting a few thousand times, and telling their friends to do ths same, and it can make a difference.

But you have to motivate the crazies. Right now, I'm not.

I just dont understand why the fanbase can come out for the final vote which is basically a back-up with no guarantee of actual playing time, but not for one of our guys to actually start the game? What's the issue? Apathy? Until the field can be narrowed down for only a few guys for one spot we wont vote? (hint, hint, that's one of the changes I want for the normal ballot)
