Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players

Featured Replies

Per Rotoworld:

Mark Berman of Houston's FOX 26 heard from sources Wednesday that the Astros have a deal in place with the Phillies for Roy Oswalt and are waiting on the right-hander to waive his no-trade clause.

The two sides have agreed on the amount of money that will be exchanged and the players that will head to Houston, according to the report. With those crucial steps covered, we now wait on Oswalt to decide if he wants to spend the next year-plus in Philadelphia. He has a 3.42 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 120 strikeouts in 129 innings this season for the fifth-place Astros. Jul. 29 - 12:48 am et

A Halladay-Oswalt 1-2 punch would be pretty impressive; if Utley and Victorino come back and are able to play to their standards, the Phillies will be pretty damn good.

It was talked about on the radio and is on MLB Trade rumors

Did he approve it?

Not official yet

Oswalt OKs deal.

More from Rotoworld:

A source tells Jim Salisbury that J.A. Happ and prospect outfielder Anthony Gose are "definite" as part of the trade for Roy Oswalt.

It's been speculated that right-hander Vance Worley could be the other piece of the trade. We're all pretty well acquainted with Happ by now, but Gose basically profiles as a younger and more raw version of Michael Bourn. The 19-year-old outfielder is batting .263/.325/.385 with four homers and 20 RBI in 418 at-bats with High-A Clearwater this season and is just 36-for-63 (57 percent) in stolen base attempts.

I know it'll sound silly, but I've secretly wanted Roy Oswalt and Roy Halladay to be on the same team for a long time.

So, who else is on your formerly secret mancrush team?

Don't know if there are a lot of others. Oswalt and Halladay have the same first names, obviously, and are by coincidence my favorite righthanded pitchers and have been for years. I always thought Oswalt would be with Houston for most of his career but figured Halladay would leave Toronto at some point, and I always thought it'd be cool if they pitched together.

The players in the Oswalt deal, which is still not official: J.A. Happ, OF Anthony Gose, SS Jonathan Villan. #Phillies #Astros #MLB 1 minute ago via web

Aside from the Peralta deal has a team really overpaid in a trade yet? Prices are reported to be astronomical but it hasn't manifested itself in any official deals just yet.

If Tampa had acquired them, they could have been the Tampa Bay Roys.

It's really been quite the opposite. Both Haren and Oswalt have been traded for pretty terrible packages.

If the Phillies have to pick up his option and there's no money coming in, that's somewhat balanced I'd say.

The option does not have to be picked up, instead the buyout has increased from $1M to $2M and the Astros are throwing in $11M.

In return the Astros get a couple of 19 year olds in A ball and a 28 year old starter coming off an 81 day stint on the DL with a forearm strain who a lot of people don't exactly think highly of. Meh.

The Astros are sending ELEVEN million to Philly.

A package of Garcia, Retherford, and De Aza would be better than either one so far.

Christ, $11 million? You're kidding right? That goes from ok to spectacularly awful.

The third prospect is such a non-prospect that his name is mispelled half the time, including the BP prospect handbook.

Part of this resean is that neither pitcher was pitching really well and the commitment for another year with big money.

Haren was having a poor year for the D-backs in the NL and still had time on the contract. So he may not have helped down the stretch.

Oswalt was having a pretty good year but I think more GMs a hesitant to have pitchers move from the NL to AL and contribute right away. He also has another year on his deal.

Haren played well in the AL before and signed to a below market deal. Oswalt's contract is pricey but with 11 mil comng along that's not really an issue. A few months ago Wade said he'd eat money to get better prospects in a trade and I cant imagine how bad theyd be if he didnt send money.

4th organization in about a year for the 13th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

The dude rakes too, is Gose really that great of a prospect?

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:43 PM)
The Astros are flipping the outfielder for BRETT WALLACE. WTF?

Brett Wallace's stock has really plummeted since last year. There are concerns about his bat being able to translate to the majors and that even 1B might be a push for him defensively.

Still a stupid trade for the Blue Jays though. Tony Gose does not look like much a prospect at all. His SB% this season is laughable, and as already stated, best case scenario is that he turns into Michael Bourn Jr., and that ain't that good.

Stupid of the Blue Jays to trade Michael Taylor for Wallace in the first place.
