I hope Alexei is doing the Rocky 4 workout somewhere in Montana right now.

Assuming normal regression...with 6% inflation

2012 (30): 4 WAR ($19.1MM)

2013 (31): 3.5 WAR ($17.7MM)

2014 (32): 3 WAR ($16.1 MM)

2015 (33): 2.5 WAR ($14.1 MM)

2016 (34): 1.8 WAR ($10.8 MM)

Worth it the entire way pretty much.

I wish that Alexei would hit a little more consistently, but I don't mind paying extra money for a guy in his prime who has been able to play elite defense at SS. That's not an easy position to fill.

He's my girlfriend's favourite player because he's always smiling and looks like a kid having fun.

If he makes her complain less that I'm making her watch the White Sox play, he's worth A-Rod money.

His play this game doesn't hurt either. He's simply talented and fun to watch. My favourite defensive play of 2010.

Ha, I remember that play, awesome (this link starts off showing Danks highlights BTW, you have to go to the Alexei highlight at the bottom). I think he did the same thing 2 nights in a row, went way out to get a ground ball and got the runner with an impossibly long throw all the way across the infield. Vizquel grinning because it reminds him of himself from 10 years ago.

He did that so many freaking times this year, just unreal. Gotta love his reaction too.

I just re-read this post and realized something.

Vizquel grinning because it remings him of himself from 10 years ago...

At the end of this contract, Alexei will be just about as old as Vizquel 10 years ago.

Any concerns about him having any additional pressure now that he's inked a nice deal? We all know about his early season struggles, and I just hope that when it happens again this year (which it most likely will, unfortunately) that he doesn't fold under additional heat because of the new deal...

If "Moving to the U.S. as a defector and instantly getting $6 million guaranteed before going to your first training camp" wasn't too much pressure, it's hard to figure out how this would be.
