February 2, 201511 yr I have my first lesson at golftec tomorrow. Can't wait. I've only been playing a few years but got somewhat serious about it last year. My goal is to break 100 consistently this year.
February 4, 201511 yr Watched a fair amount of the Phoenix open last weekend. Can't wait for the weather to turn so I can play.

My goal is to break 100 consistently this year. Did the swing assessment there, really cool. Learned alot of little things that should help. Their tech is great and they send you all of the videos for download. However, their lesson pricing is just ridiculous. $450 for 5 30 minute lessons? Yeah - no thanks.
February 5, 201511 yr Yikes. The fall from that single event with his wife to now is crazy. Edited February 5, 201511 yr by Jenksismybitch
February 6, 201511 yr Tuesday, fortyfive degrees and light rain falling. My girl's team ignored the weather and just grinded out decent rounds. They struggled with club selection but overall I was really impressed.
February 15, 201511 yr Between now and the end of April I have at least two tournaments a week. I love this coaching stuff. Between Girls Varsity, Boys Varsity, JV/Novice, and Beginner I will be really busy.

March 4, 201511 yr Put in a bunch of bids for some new fairway woods and wedges on ebay yesterday. Now fully engaged in the golf world for the year. Can't wait for the weather to turn so I can get out and start swinging again. Edited March 4, 201511 yr by Jenksismybitch

Yeah that's where I started, but then I found some good deals on ebay, assuming I get them in the range i'm hoping for. Jealous of your trip. My first round won't be until late April at the TPC John Deere course. I'm in NOLA with the wifey in May, I was thinking of taking my clubs to catch a round down there, but I'm not sure I'll have time (or permission).
March 4, 201511 yr So my goal this year is to consistently break 100. I've taken quite a few lessons this winter that should get me there. Once I break 100, I'm going to treat myself to some new irons/wedges as I'm using my FIL's hand me down's. Any recommendations or just go to a big box store and hit everything and see what feels the best?

Any recommendations or just go to a big box store and hit everything and see what feels the best? I went to a golfsmith and swung about 4 different sets that were in my price range and had good reviews online. It's free and they give you an idea of your swing speed, the flight of the ball, what clubs feel best in your hands, what clubs have the best sweet spot and forgiveness, etc. I was going to do the $60 or $100 dollar fitting with a specialist but I decided it probably wasn't worth it since I know my swing pretty well and know the issues that I have to keep working on (and i'm not abnormaly tall, short, wide, etc. requiring anything special). If you've had lessons, it's probably not necessary since you know the main goals of the swing and you probably know some of the issues you have with yours already. Then the issue is whether to buy new or used. You can save some money buying used. And you can also save some money buying at the end of the season. Once you find the set you want, look around at sports authority, dick's, golf world, golf galaxy, etc. I ended up testing the clubs I got at golfsmith and then I bought them on their website during a promotion with $100 off $250 or more (which they have pretty frequently). Keep that in mind.

Then search on 2nd swing for those exact ones for more than 50% off what they charge you. I would go to at least 2 places to make sure you try the kinds you want. I personally HATE swinging a club in a little box inside so I've done this at outside fitting days.

March 5, 201511 yr QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) any specific places in the area that you'd recommend for fitting? Let me check my CDGA cal and see if there are any good upcoming ones real quick. That is usually a good resource. I've been to the PGA store recently to double check my club pro's fitting measurement and they were pretty darn good. I then went right to the internet and picked up basically new Ping i25's for half off.
March 6, 201511 yr My team shot 84-88-88-94 tossing out the 97. Middle of the pack on a rough day. We'll never catch the top teams that have line ups of 5 guys that all break 80, but we're respectable.
March 9, 201511 yr Anyone ever buy refinished balls? I'm looking at some pro v1's. $45 for 3 dozen in "mint" condition. http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/titleist-gol...golf-balls.html Seems too good to be true.

I've never bought them, but that's very tempting at that price. I almost pulled the trigger on the same thing @ $60 for 3 dozen http://www.golfetail.com/p-207060-titleist...nt-3-dozen.aspx
March 9, 201511 yr They don't tell you what the year of the ball is, that's the only thing. Not sure how much that matters. I just don't want to be buying balls from 2000.
March 16, 201511 yr Got my first round of the year in yesterday at Ruffled Feathers in Lemont. Pretty great day for golf. About 60-65 and no one was on the course. Hit some good shots and some bad shots. Ended up with an 87. For the first time out, hitting a couple new clubs (I did take some mulligans), pretty pleased. I liked the course a lot, very challenging, but I dunno that I'd pay the full summer rate. I had to walk the course too. I haven't done that since high school. Holy crap am I sore.

That place was going bankrupt last summer so the course isnt as nice as the rate anymore.
