August 8, 200322 yr Miles, Hummel, and Rivera all had good nights. Hopefully, we'll see Hummel and Rivera, if not all 3 of them up in September.
August 8, 200322 yr Looks like someone in the organization better start paying attention to Hummel...being only 24, and hitting with some power, and average in the 290's...he may get an extended look in ST next year, especially if Jose isn't resigned
August 8, 200322 yr Author Kanny was rained out, Bristol was suspended. Great Falls box is unavailable, but they did score 15 runs on 18 hits.

Hope he keeps it up and can produce like he did his first few years.
August 8, 200322 yr I really like Hummel. I think he's a very good player. And, it really helps that he can play 2B, SS, and 3B. Could he possibly become our starting 3B this or next year if he does really well if he's called up in September?
August 8, 200322 yr That's pretty good that Cotts can work around his walks. His control may not be perfect, it seems, but he can work around them and get out of close innings. Pretty impressive.
August 8, 200322 yr That's my boy, Neal!!! I think he's gonna be ready to face major league hitting after a few more starts in the minors. Perhaps facing Detroit would be the best team for him to 'break in' the league.

Could he possibly become our starting 3B this or next year if he does really well if he's called up in September? I doubt it. Unless Alomar doesn't resign with the Sox net year, Hummel is in a bit of a logjam. I really think the Sox will resign Valentin as well.
August 8, 200322 yr Cotts walked 4 guys in 7 innings. One of the walks was intentional, so in reality it was only 3. He definitely wasn't his best tonight. Didn't have great command, which led to the walks and 114 pitches in 6 innings. All that said, Cotts threw shutout ball for six innnings and only gave up two hits, on a night that he wasn't great. I think you can find some positive in that, without looking too hard. From a guy who has seen some pretty good prospects come through Birmingham, I can honestly say he is ready to move up. I am not saying that beginning the year in AAA may not be necessary, but like Buehrle and Kip Wells before him, he is definitely ready for a month in the Big Leagues. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the run support he gets is s***. Not that the Barons score many runs for anybody, but its been really bad for Cotts lately.

August 8, 200322 yr but like Buehrle and Kip Wells before him, he is definitely ready for a month in the Big Leagues. buehrle ok... but kip wells is not exactly the best example for tootin someones horn..........
August 8, 200322 yr buehrle ok... but kip wells is not exactly the best example for tootin someones horn.......... If I recall correctly, Kip was 4-0 and pitched very well in the season he was first called up. I would consider that a very good example, thank you.
August 8, 200322 yr If I recall correctly, Kip was 4-0 and pitched very well in the season he was first called up. I would consider that a very good example, thank you. I have a question...............are there any pitcher, in our system that youre aware of, that arent "top of the rotation" pitchers?
August 8, 200322 yr If I recall correctly, Kip was 4-0 and pitched very well in the season he was first called up. I would consider that a very good example, thank you. yeah but puttin it in long term perspective.. what has kip done lately?????lol.. mark on the other hand has kept it up from the get go...... and is still going strong.........kipster... deer in the headlights... well it just aint happening... so when thinking in long terms here i would not use kip as a good example then your sayin we will only get one good season out of cotts and we all hope for more..............

You are comparing apples to oranges, michelle
August 8, 200322 yr buehrle ok... but kip wells is not exactly the best example for tootin someones horn.......... Wells was far more talented than Buehrle... He just got ruined by his own skill and lack of coaching by Nardi Contreras.
August 8, 200322 yr You are comparing apples to oranges, michelle how so.. you brought up the comparison... is cotts a kip wells or a mark buehrle.....
