Alternatively, Reinsdorf could replace both and hire former White Sox skipper Tony La Russa to manage and promote assistant GM Rick Hahn to run baseball operations.
September 1, 201114 yr It would be crazy if the Cubs and Sox both had a new GM and coach next year. I still don't think KW is gone.

If Reinsdorf hires LaRussa and promotes Hahn, then there's a high probability of organizational dysfunction in the near future. After all the KW/Ozzie bulls***, isn't this something we'd like to avoid? Also, what's the odds that Hahn gets the GM job if KW is let go. I'd have to think 90% or so. I just don't see Reinsdorf looking outside the organization, unless he feels that Hahn is partly responsible for this mess and wouldn't bring enough change from KW.

September 1, 201114 yr Basically it seems they have been trying to throw each other under the bus all season. Ironic if they tossed each other under. I'd like to see a change at manager and a shake up of the coaching staff. I could support leaving K-Dubya in place for another season. It would be interesting who, if any, of the staff is (are?) retained. I wouldn't mind LaRussa, but I really don't see it happening.

September 1, 201114 yr In terms of KW being removed...in my opinion, it all comes down to what he told JR when he convinced him to spend the money last year. If he told him that he could spend $125 million and be competitive but that he'd still give it a 50/50 shot of winning the division because of these caveats (Peavy's arm, Konerko having a down year, whatever)...then the Chairman made the call on spending that money. If he told him that "I'll stake my reputation that if you spend $125 million we will win the Central..." well...

I've heard a scenario where he'd hire Joe McEwing to be his bench coach to take over for him after that.

He's saddled this team with a series of bad contracts and bad trades. If he admitted that last season and the Chairman still said "Here's the money"...then that's the Chairman taking responsibility.

If anyone took production from Rios as a "Given" considering his 2009 season, then that's fireable right there. And yes...the Hudson trade hurts KW, because that trade caused KW to spend an extra $10 million or so between 2010 and 2011.
