Anybody have any experiences with them? I know they are supposedly the best medical facility in the country. May have to go.

Hope everything's alright.

I had a tumor on my biceps removed and they shipped it there for testing. All was well.

It will be in a few months when I have this surgery done. Just not sure if I should go out to AZ to their Mayo or stay here at Rush with a surgeon I know and knows my condition well. Mayo does this type of procedure all the time. I meet with my surgeon next week and will see how many he had done.

I'm leaning towards AZ because it is a 2 month recovery and my parents are out there. Was just curious what they are like.

While I have no personal experience with Mayo, I have been through the decision process as to whether to go to Mayo or stay with family doctors. The reality is that Chicago has great doctors and they are every bit as good as anyone at Mayo. The decision should be made based on the recovery time and support. If family is in AZ, I'd go to AZ.

Good point and that is the way I am leaning.

My family went there (the one in Rochester) all the time for major things until insurance covered Barnes-Jewish instead.

They diagnosed my grandmother's ALS early enough to make life a little easier for her. My dad had numerous surgeries there. In my opinion it's the best of the best all around, though you can still find equally as great individuals in Chicago. I wanted to go there for a diagnosis when I had a mystery blackout three years ago, I wanted to go there but couldn't and got OK but not great service from Barnes-Jewish.

here's hoping the testicular implant goes well! j/k

Hope recovery goes well! Make sure to hit on all the hot nurses; I think a girl I went to school with works there now (if you went to Mayo).

Hope you are well. Did u go to Mayo in Arizona?

Are there Mayo clinics all over?

Tell us some stories about your experience since you may have some time :)

Just always curious about the idiosyncracies of the medical profession and how they treat us.

Mayo was great all around. Timely and the nurses and doctors were great. Always had dr's on the floor in case your physician isn't around. Even over night. Beds needed o be bigger. I'm 6'5 and it was uncomfortable at times. I was there a week.

Greg, they are a branch with only a few places in the country. If you can get to one for a second opinion, go for it. My surgeon in Chicago, who I like, made me feel like my chance of survival was low. Dr at Mayo treated it as no big deal and does my surgery all the time. Very thorough and see everything through. I recommend them.
