March 7, 201313 yr Lunardi has Illini as 9 seed. I'd sure like us to avoid a 1/2 in round of 32. However, if we played Memphis like he thinks we would fare well. They pretty much just run and jump.
March 7, 201313 yr QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 11:19 PM) It's been a tradition since the 70's. Jim Crews brought it to Evansville, so I am familiar with it. Basically, the players have the mic without a time limit. Some talk awhile, some make jokes, some get real emotional. Heard there have been a few marriage proposals. As far as the nets being cut down and celebrating the title, I'm okay with it. From a distance its kinda weird, but the rationale was this year was special because of the journey it has taken to get there and this team will be considered special in IU history, regardless of how the season ends. They wanted to do it in front of fans. I'm sure everybody wishes they would have done it after a win. But how is it really different from a baseball team celebrating a division championship after a loss when the other team in contention lost also? Don't see it everyday, but to me, I say let them have their moment and its not time to take care of business and keep your eyes on the bigger prize. You're IU, act like you've been there before. If they lose early, actually any earlier than the FF, I'm pretty sure most IU fans aren't looking back favorably on the 2012-2013 Hoosiers.

If Memphis loses in the CUSA tourney they'll be right on the bubble.

March 8, 201313 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 05:57 PM) Doesn't matter, the program certainly has had the success. If it was anyone else than IU, no one would even be talking about it in the first place.
March 8, 201313 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 05:57 PM) Doesn't matter, the program certainly has had the success. I;m just saying, they cant act like they've been there before because they really havent, or even lived through it. Its like a new beginning and they needed to hang their hats on that success.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) I;m just saying, they cant act like they've been there before because they really havent, or even lived through it. Its like a new beginning and they needed to hang their hats on that success. The fans didn't run in there and cut down the nets. IU as a whole decided to do it. Let's not pretend this is the Hickory HS team finally making it big or something, which seems like what Crean would want people to believe. All it takes in college basketball is a few big recruits. They got them, and they are winning. This isn't complicated. It's not a bunch of walk-ons winning the BT all of the sudden. I have no problem celebrating a BT title as that's a huge accomplishment regardless of recent seasons (though you'd think they'd want to wait to celebrate it outright if they can do it), but doing it after blowing winning it outright and a loss is dumb.

Orange is Tennessee. Yuck. I'd say we probably have as much of a problem with people complaining about it as we do with it happening. I wouldn't have allowed the nets to be cut down after a loss, but I can't blame this class of seniors for it, given what they came into. But if they come out flat on Saturday, then I'll hang this a lot more on Crean's preparation. You can't come out flat 2 games in a row and hang a banner. Honestly, what bothers me a lot more is that they'll hang a banner either way. Let the kids have their press conference, I can even let the kids have the Assembly nets...but they have to earn something that hangs.

That's what you want to think is happening, but you're wrong yet again. There's plenty of people who think it was stupid, hell even one of the IU guys on here. Guess he must not be objective either. I could easily turn that around and say that the IU fans aren't being objective because it's their team. Edited March 8, 201313 yr by IlliniKrush
March 8, 201313 yr ESPN's Bubble Watch is right. For the most part, the bubble is a post-apocalyptic hellscape this year. Kentucky goes down, as well as Virginia.
March 8, 201313 yr Even Bo Ryan giving up on the s***ty effort of Wisconsin. Evan Anderson shouldnt play fora terrible team, but when you watch this nonsense I guess what does it matter. Theyve made 1 3 in 25 attempts over a 2 game period. Yet they keep jacking them up.
March 8, 201313 yr Woooo down 20 and now refs will start to give Wisconsin a call when they drive. Whatever no one to blame but yourself when you lose to Purdue at home. Just a complete joke.

Over time, they will be disappointed with the finish, but will remember the players fondly, especially the seniors. It's hard to explain, but with what Indiana went through, I think there is an appreciation for the journey and commitment of the players. This senior class started with six players and 3 "celebrated" senior night. Mo Creek still has a year remaining after red shirting, two others didn't stick around. Suffice it to say, while Indiana fans can be very arrogant, the last 6-8 years have been somewhat humbling and make you look at things differently than before. Just one man's opinion.

I do remember people talking about it last year, however it's not the same anyway, which is why it didn't get as much media attention. That was the LAST game of the season. IU still has a chance to win the BT outright. Had the Michigan game this weekend been at home and they lost, I wouldn't have a problem with any of it because the season's over, and they will won the BT, even if shared.
