ChiliIrishHammock24
It is truly a sad, sad story.
LVSoxFan
Isn't this like Brian Anderson II? Awesome fielder, young talent... but ultimately useless at the plate. Just when you think you can breath a bit with Dunn and Rios then Gordo goes over a cliff. Either way, if he continues to flail by May by all means send him down to get it together. As the saying goes, you can't win a season in the first couple of months but you can lose it...
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) I have finally given up on Gordon Beckham ever remembering how to hit. I'm with you. I was still holding out some hope, but not anymore. It wouldn't be the first time a player had two awesome months but turned out to be no good. It's now 2+ years of evidence that it may have just been a fluke.
caulfield12
Except Anderson never came close to putting together 4 months of exceptional everyday play together. Not even close to Gordon's half-season of success in 2010. And not so sure at all that anyone can feel halfway comfortable with where Rios is at right now. LVSoxFan
Oh I'm not, trust me. Unfortunately Rios and Dunn are like the proverbial albatross--we have to play them so as they go, the team goes. The Beckham/Morel thing is just now another worry to have.
ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Oh I'm not, trust me. Unfortunately Rios and Dunn are like the proverbial albatross--we have to play them so as they go, the team goes. The Beckham/Morel thing is just now another worry to have. Why are people so worried about Morel? First of all, Morel was not a super prospect who was a legit ROY player, secondly, Morel has not had a couple years to right his wrongs. Thirdly, Morel honestly looks a lot better than Beckham right now.
Steve9347
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Thirdly, Morel honestly looks a lot better than Beckham right now. You sir, have not been watching the same Brent Morel that I have. As bad as Beckham has looked, Morel takes the cake in offensive inefficiency. He has 11 strikeouts in 30 at bats. That makes Adam Dunn look like Albert Pujols. Brent Morel has achieved a rocking .115 batting average with 1 extra base hit to the tune of a .332 OPS. Nothing about his decent finish to 2011 against AAA pitching can convince me that this guy will be a quality major league player. Believe it or not, those numbers are worse than Beckham's disgusting start.
LVSoxFan
OK totally random thought here but how is it that this team has struggled with crappy hitting for so long now when you've got one of the best hitters in the game with Paulie? Do they not watch him? Study him? Ask him?
TitoMB345
I think I have to retire my Beckham t-shirt.

Most disappointing thing so far this season is that Morel didn't carry over any of the momentum he had at the end of last year into this year. He looks the same right now as he did for most of last year, where he was one of the least productive corner infielders over the last decade. A great end to his season might have made a lot of us way too optimistic about him. As someone said in a different thread, he is striking out way too much for someone with below average power. I just want to know why the hell he comes out so timid at the beginning of the season...when he just says the hell with it, and is aggressive instead of using his "if I just try to hit everything to the opposite field they won't send me down" approach, he seems to hit quite well... The Ginger Kid
wow...that is so sad. He looks nothing like that at the plate any more. Wonder why he went and messed with it.
