GT: Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers

The biggest deal, Molina for Santos, actually saved the White Sox $7.25 million in guaranteed salary...so you can bet that JR's not going to fire Williams for saving him from that catastrophe.

Even the Danks and Peavy contracts were covered by insurance, so they're only losing 55-65 cents on the dollar.

No one knows how the insurance works. KW is very lucky that Santos got hurt and was a non-factor this year, as if Santos was contributing to the Blue Jays and Molina performed as terrible as he has, then that trade would be getting a lot of bad press. It's still infuriating that KW seemingly didn't ask other teams what they'd be willing to give up to get Santos.

You are all overreacting. It's a long season. Do you all remember Houston? You go through s*** like this over the course of 162 games. They're hot, we're not. We've been hot when they've been cold. It happens. Relax, it's July.

Heard in 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009-12.

Been there, done that.

The only time we weren't overreacting was 2008.

2000 and 2005, we ran out to huge leads and held on.

Or he knew those trades would get rescinded by the commissioner's office.

Unfortunately history is no on your side. The Sox are not Houston.

3 managers in the new century and a majority of the story stays the same.

Still way, way too early to lump Ventura in with the second half struggles of Ozzie and Manuel.

You really think only the Blue Jays would be willing to make a trade without doing a physical or looking at medical reports? If Kenny traded Santos knowing he was hurt and didn't disclose it, then that's pathetic of him.

He doesn't know how to rebuild. His idea of rebuilding is trading vets packaged with a contract albatross to gain fiscal relief. He doesn't look for baseball players he looks for flawed athletes he can either fix or hope that their natural physical prowess can overcome.

Things would look a lot different with Gio Gonzalez the ace of our staff right now, to go with Sale and Peavy.

Oh, well.

He will get at least next season, whether you like it or not.

This season, up until this point, still has to be considered evidence of progress.

Rios, Dunn and Peavy all performed up to their abilities this year. That makes KW look a lot better...if the bullpen wasn't leading the AL in blown saves, we would still be in first place and things would look much more positive.

That was the area he chose to go with youth (letting Frasor go, for example), and it has come back to bite him. But many were predicting 85-100 losses, and that clearly hasn't happened.

The problem could be more JR. He's shown loyalty to former players and maybe there are people in the areas of scouting and development that are working only because they are buddies, family of friends, ect that wouldn't be working elsewhere.

My point is it may have very little to do with the managers.

One wonders though...after signing that huge extension, then trading him away so quickly? Santos would have been MORE valuable to another team without that contract hanging over his head. He still had one cost-controlled year and 3 arbitration ones, where a team could go year-to-year. It's not like he was Matt Moore or David Price.

It didn't (and still doesn't) make any sense, especially reversing course and re-signing Danks at roughly the same time.

Or the Sox for some reason felt they knew something about Molina that seemingly no other teams knew and had to have him?

Monday: Liriano- Floyd

Tuesday: Devries- Quintana

Wednesday: Blackburn- Peavy

Seriously, 2 out of 3, or bust.

Friday: Sale- Darvish

Saturday: Humber- Harrison

Sunday: Floyd- Oswalt

Expecting to get swept. Maybe a trade happens before then.

If they don't make the playoffs I don't see KW being brought back.

That already screams a big loss and the soxtalk board going nuts.

I don't see JR ever firing his favorite son.

The difference in 2005 is they faced the division rivals at the end of the season and put them away. They went 8-2. There was a lot more confidence in the pitching.

Two or three pluses in this loss today though. Offense (Rios and Youkilis) looks as if it might be waking up and kudos to the bullpen

I they could get a nice package for Dunn (probably a NL team), I'm all for it.

Ha, Veal sent down for Floyd.

Is Septimo better than Veal? Maybe Septimo has no options remaining and Veal does.

This team will go the way of Paul Konerko.

Soon enough the Tigers will come back down to earth, they just caught us at a bad time. A typical up and down season. Yes, imagine that......a baseball season full of ups and downs, Hmmm...I've never seen that before.

The calls for blowing up the team already are insane and foolish. Let's just wait this thing out, it has been streaky all year. A good streak will come around, people need to relax

Agreed. A rough patch to be sure but that's how seasons go.

I dont think Dunn has any value..

Hes hitting like .165 with a .307 obp since the beginning of June

Oswalt has been scratched Monday so he may or may not pitch in Sox series!

Roy Oswalt has been scratched from Monday's start due to back tightness. Uh oh. Oswalt, of course, was plagued by back issues last year, which limited him to 23 starts. He's headed to Houston to be examined. The Rangers will replace him with Scott Feldman for now, but Neftali Feliz will be an option before long.
