Also this from #Royals person in Nashville: "Internally, we don't feel Myers' ceiling is as high as those outside the organization do."

As @JonHeymanCBS points out, on baseball-reference the most similar pitcher to James Shields is Zack Greinke.

My quick take: This is the worst trade in MLB history unless Wade Davis becomes a good starter, in which case it's only the second worst.

This type of post is just asking for Myers to become a bust, solely to try to teach him a lesson he ought to already know.

Rob Neyer is a complete asshat for that comment.

Another note about KC-TB trade: Industry perception was that NYY wiped out Seattle in Pineda deal; same for SD in the Latos deal.

I think, value wise, the Sox trades for Swisher were much worse than this one, and that one wasn't even terrible

The $560 million spent by the #Dodgers this year is more than the purchase price of all but fve #MLB teams in history.

Well, the White Sox better come to play against the Royals this year head to head.

We know they have hitters that can beat us. Butler, Hosmer if he bounces back, Moose, Gordon, even Francour hits us and nobody else. Their catcher is a total stud.

Now are you ready for Shields, Santana, Guthrie, Chen and Davis? It's time for the White Sox to play some competitive baseball against the Royals.

You got to admit. Except for Davis' start and Sale's start, I don't like our chances in any one of those matchups considering our lousy play vs. KC and their elevated play vs. the Sox.

Francouer murdered the Sox last year...to the tune of a .768 OPS.

The Royals made an old style Ken Williams trade. I hated em when KW made them. Maybe I won't like this one in end but I get need to win.

Good, now maybe we'll be able to beat KC. Couldn't beat them when they were s***.

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/12/10/39585...s-trade-is.html

Here's the thing, everyone around KC feels that Myers was at best a 2-tool corner outfielder, the equivalent of a more smooth and polished Dayan Viciedo essentially worth the equivalent of $8-10 million per season on the open market.

Of course, the downside is giving up young pitching, but we've seen plenty of trades of pitching prospects where those guys didn't end up amounting to anything, too. For every Lee/Phillips/Sizemore for Colon or Nathan/Liriano/Bonser for AJ deal, there are tons that don't work out. Just look at the ACTUAL return the Indians have gotten for Sabathia, Lee and Victor Martinez, for a counter-example.

Now you can make the argument they never should have signed Francouer to an extension based on half a season of probably anomalous results. You can also argue that all the pitching injuries last year or non-performance (Montgomery, Duffy and Hochevar) put the Royals in such a bind that they absolutely had to use their minor league depth to get some proven major league pitching.

That line-up is incredibly dangerous, especially if Moustakas and Hosmer both hit their stride and Escobar and Perez are future All-Stars. Gordon is rock solid, we all know what Butler can do, they have the best throwing outfield in the the last 10-20 years of modern baseball, they do need to shore up 2B/CF, and that's about it.

The reverse of all this is that Guthrie was a one-season fluke, Santana's best days are behind him, Shields looks more like a back-end of the rotation guy than a true ace (which he did for the first half of 2012) and Davis never emerges as the 5th starter but is relegated to middle relief (you could also argue he could be given a shot at closer, but he doesn't have the knockout pitch and that bullpen's too talented to stick him there if he can hold down the fort as a .500-ish 5th starter, which is all that they really need).

Heck, we should be elated that they might be turning the corner on Bruce Chen starting 3-5 times against us, which killed us in 2012, but is unlikely to happen again in 2013. Same with Guthrie facing us 3-4 times, too.

How many homers did he hit against us? I remember at least 3. pissed me off.

You literally remember every single homer he hit against the Sox

Source: Grilli back to #Pirates. Two-year deal. Pending physical.

Shields will most likely depart after 2014, but hey, at least Kansas City will be 80 win caliber for the next two years.

And there's a very good chance that Myers will be tearing up the league come 2014/2015.

It's a stupid trade, no matter how you slice it.

I think that would be a good fit for him. Rangers need a left bat in that lineup.

Olney tweets: very respected agent who is canvassing the catchers' market thinks that eventually, there will be a reunion of A.J. Pierzynski/CWS.

That's one ignominious downfall for a guy who seemed like one of the all time greats.

Tough to not think about PEDs when you look at his decline.
