You know, marty, additionally here's something to think about.

 

Generally speaking, when one holds an opinion, he should feel free to express that opinion. Upon said expression, if he finds that he is alone in holding that opinion, and that everyone else in the conversation holds a different viewpoint, he can do one of two things. He can keep belaboring his opinion and block out any other viewpoints, OR he can step back and evaluate WHY he's the only person who feels that way. He can examine the other opinions and see if, maybe, he may not have all the information.

 

Which do you do marty?

This is like when Terry Ryan left the Twins & all hell broke loose. Where's my Kenny? Kenny, the joke is over. I miss you Kenny. I think it's pretty reasonable at this point to assume Hahn is waiting for the last big SP & OF chips in free agency to fall before a move is made. I have no doubt Hahn would like to make an impact move, but the market needs to develop and hopefully opportunities will then present themselves.

You have to be patient and remember, new GMs, no matter what they may say publicly, like to put their own stamp on the team. Hahn is going to make moves, maybe even more than KW would have made this offseason.

I don't think number of moves is a very good measuring stick for effort, nor is effort a good measuring stick for whether or not a decision makes sense. Standing pat is a decision, as is waiting a little bit to see what happens in the FA market.

The free agent market is quickly drying up, so some of the potential trade pieces on the Sox are going to look more appealing to other teams. Hahn will probably be able to get more for Floyd, Thornton, etc. after some FAs have signed vs. a couple weeks ago.

 

I imagine a few moves will be made to improve the team, but I'd be suprised if there was a blockbuster involving the Sox.

There has been quite a bit of activity with the Sox FO, just because nothing has gone down yet doesnt mean it wont. As of now the pitching options on the marketplace are dwindling, and yet here we are with a few really good trade chips both RH and LH. WE also have a lead off hitter, a middle of the order corner guy and a young development prospect who are all on the block. Oh, we also have some VERY good established pen arms on the block. The Sox are open for business and its just a matter of time.

Aggressiveness is an excellent quality for a GM to have and I see none of it with Hahn. It seems like Hahn is playing it way too safe and I don't like that one bit.

 

Look, if you don't think DeAza is a long-term piece then f***ing trade him. Yes, as "dominos" fall, there are fewer players on the market. The flip side is that there are then fewer teams looking to fill holes. Sitting around all day doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a better return on a player. Often it means you end up getting nothing done & have to take less than what you wanted at a later date.

 

I will now echo the statement of another poster on this thread who asked Rock Raines which direction are we headed in. What is the plan here? Do we have one? Seagulls have a plan. Seagulls have a direction, a very clear direction. When you watch the geese fly overhead, they actually know where they are going. Do the Sox even know that? Is Rick Hahn smarter than a seagull or a goose or a gander? None of this is certain, and the lack of action & the uncertainty surrounding it makes me think about monster trucks. THat is all.

Kenny is still in charge of the vision and I dont see one shred of evidence that the bolded is true.

I'll admit, the lack of action is unsettling. But the Sox fans aren't alone in waiting for good news. Just have to be patient and see what this roster looks like in a couple months.

If you traded on the stock market this way, you'd lose all of your money in about 6 weeks. Wait out for commodities to increase in value and deal them then. Deal them at highest value, not lower. That sort of thing.

And let's be honest, one of KW's weaknesses was his impatience. He often took the first deal he liked instead of waiting for a market to develop for his players.
