Keppinger to Sox 3 yr deal

Just pure speculation... I wonder of the Sox plan to trade Beckham, and maybe Floyd or another pitcher, to get a 3B? And play Keppinger at 2b?

I was thinking this as well. I assume he was signed to play 3B, but maybe not.

Per @JonHeymanCBS, #WhiteSox sign Jeff Keppinger. Buddy Bell had him in Kansas City and loved him. Fits the plan for offense

Me either. Seems absurd for a bench player. But let's wait to see how much money.

He'll be starting at 3rd for the Sox next year, and for about 40% of what Youk would have received if they picked up his option.

I doubt they plan to trade Beckham, but Keppinger's ability to play 2B at least gives them the flexibility to listen to offers.

I have wanted to see Flowers for awhile now.

But for some reason I think A.J. has been IDed by other teams as having possbily PED-inflated stats.....and it'll lead to either us getting a team-friendly deal or a Yanks overpay. One or the other.

The deal is probably for 3 yrs/12-15 million range. Just my guess. He isn't a bench player either, he will start or be a super sub in year 3 and a good one at that.

Just worry about his defense at 3rd with all our LHP

I would have rather paid Youk the big money for one year, with no obligations to anyone past 2013.

1 yr too long but I am happy with this. As for dealing Beckham, they still could if they are really intent on rushing Sanchez or have Kepp play 2B and sign another player for 3b.

Beckham has more value here (in pining for improvement) than in any deal one would get right now

This guy almost never strikes out. DA must be excited beyond belief.

well Kepp will be a very nice #2 hitter for us, with a lot less injury risk than Youk. I would have liked to seen Youk back tho I will admit

He only played 50 games at third base last year?

I'm not liking this move.

compared to what Scutaro got, I think we should all be happy with Kepp at 3 years and anything less than 14 mil

Yes, he'll be starting for us, but has been pretty much a replacement level player. His career bWAR was negative coming into his breakout season at age 32. But if the money isn't bad I can't complain.

Like many have said, not thrilled with three years, but with the 3B demand, 2 years probably wasn't getting it done

I doubt we're going to pay him any more than we paid Teahen. Even if he's a complete bust, 4-5M per year of wasted money isn't that big of a deal. In this market, not a bad get if the money is at 4-5 million.

ventura. can`t confirm Keppinger.

I can dig it, he handles the bat well and would look good in the 2 hole. Would have liked a LH bat but looking at his splits, at least from last year, he's able to hit both RH and LH pitching.

Jeff Keppinger does well in Bill James' defensive metrics. He's a +7 runs saved in 50 games at 3rd last year vs. Kevin Youkilis' -1.

I also like having Keppinger in case the Sox move Beckham after this year and decide Sanchez is a better fit for 3B down the road.

Rosenthal says around $12M

i know Bill James' numbers are not the end all be all, however where did the talk come from that Keppinger was a liability on defense? I am not doubting or agreeing just wondering
