Dude never K's and should fit nicely in the 2 hole, maybe he has to be a super sub later on in the deal, but we needed a 3B and we got one who's at least OK. Hannahan would be an ideal platoon partner if he didn't suck so badly against both. Would've been nice to sign Chavez as well, but hopefully we can find a lefty 3B who can hit righties decently - any candidates out there? This kind of flies in the face of the typical KW move, in that we're "buying high" instead of hoping for a rebound, so there's more risk involved. Let's hope he doesn't become a liability before the final season of his deal. Two years would have been more ideal...but Sanchez, no matter how you try to twist his stats around, doesn't profile as a corner infielder. This type of move is one that gives the White Sox farm detractors reason to criticize. There was nothing resembling an in-house candidate (just like last season when we made the desperation play to fit Hudson into that hole), and it's costing us a bit. Now Floyd and AJ become the next question marks to deal with...and one would imagine Thornton and Crain, with their salaries being somewhat similar to what Keppinger will be making. Are we becoming the Baltimore Orioles (aside from last year) of the last 10 years? Isn't he a really bad option to get all those at bats as starting 3Bman? He's an okay option, he should patch up the position for at least a year. Of course we'd love to get someone better, we just don't have the resources to compete in a depleted talent pool at 3b. Comparing this deal to the Teahan deal is a really bad false comparison since Teahan wasn't available in the open market. You probably HAD to give Keppinger 3 years. I wouldn't really call this move a band-aid though. I mean, what would you have realistically liked Hahn to do? The market for third basemen is awful and Morel just isn't a viable option. Even further, it feels like third base is a really down position in baseball right now. Only a handful of guys I would call very good and it drops of fast after that handful. GREEDY Posted December 6, 2012 Share Posted December 6, 2012 I like the move if Hahn adds another LH infielder that can platoon with Keppinger and Beckham. Gordon and Jeff have both been around the AL long enough to where they have some history against most pitchers they will face. Add someone that hits right handed pitching and then play the matchups. Keppinger won't fair well if he plays 150 games at 3B for the Sox next year. But let him start against lefties and pick his spots against right handers and he will be successful at the plate. A solid player. Glad he is older! If Grabe can come close to what he did in his debut season at subsequent levels you guys will learn his name. OPS over 1.000 against lefty's and over .900 against righty's. He has played 3rd his whole life, with stints at short. Power will be there by ST.
