BOOM-BOOM-BOOM.gif

What made that play so great is they were hurried trying to break the press and about a half step from being out of control. The guy that made the pass, Comer, I think, would have been hard pressed to stay under control or get a decent look at the basket due to his momentum from running down the pass.

This VCU game has trap written all over it. Michigan has got to defend better than usual.

I think we're past the point of calling games against the likes of VCU, Butler, Creighton, Wichita State, Gonzaga or SLU "traps" because nobody would be at all surprised if VCU won.

A 4 facing a 5 shouldn't be considered a trap game. Michigan probably the underdogs to most people.

You wonder how long Michigan can keep it going.

Michigan's athleticism is really bothering VCU...every shot is contested, although the Rams have missed quite a few open looks.

There probably will be at least 2-3 runs in the 2nd half. The old cliché about the first five minutes after halftime being critical.

McGary looks like a beast. If he keeps playing this well, he might start considering the NBA option.

Michigan's made a lot more turnovers than normal (almost their game average in one half) and they've still blown the game wide open. Impressive.

Michigan is getting great shots, but this would be a lot closer if VCU could make shots. They're getting some too, missed like 4 at the rim, several floaters and 2 or 3 wide open 3's.

At this point, they're going to have to get the ball out of Burke's hands as much as possible and hope the other people make mistakes. So far those guys have done better than I expected with the ball.

That's the problem with VCU. They aren't great offensively and don't consistently make shots. If you can score against their pressure and handle it, they won't keep up. They're style is to wear you down so you can't score. For them to win against more talented teams, they have to make you play ugly and wear you down so you can't score well. Michigan is too good offensively. This wasn't a good match up for VCU.

They were 11th in the country in offensive efficiency. Admittedly they count on offensive rebounding and turnovers a fair amount, but it's not like Michigan is a good defensive team. The downside is that VCU definitely struggles defensively if you beat their press, but a shootout would have been more likely based on the numbers.

Yes, but they get their offensive efficiency from breaking down the other team and them not being able to score. Their offense is based off their defense. When their defense is not effective, they really struggle to score. Stats can lie... I'll rely on the eye test.

These last two games, Michigan has played their best D of the year.

That's a half truth at best. But hey, you apparently watch 7,000 basketball games a year to know all.

If McGary keeps playing this well, he's going to be getting a lot of NBA attention.

Seems like the type of kid who will stick around at least one more year, if not two.

McGary is a good player, but has a long way to go. This game was built for him, assuming he didn't get flustered, which he hasn't. He's basically a junk player (and I do not mean that as a slam). He plays with energy, crashes the boards and picks up bunnies from those rebounds and dump offs from penetrating guards. This is a game made for that type of player.

It's not half truth at all. It's not a freakin's secret that VCU struggles on offense if they can't create it with their defense. It doesn't take rocket science or a stat sheet or watching 7k basketball games to understand the obvious. I'm not sure what their is to argue about that.
