May 2, 201312 yr Man, what is going on this season! Unreal, and it doesn't look like a rainout will happen.
May 2, 201312 yr People with back issues. I think we can make a thread devoted just to that issue for the Sox
May 2, 201312 yr So many years of the Sox being so much better than the rest of baseball at keeping guys healthy. Plenty of credit for that goes to the training and conditioning people, but even if they are really good... bad luck had to hit at some point. I guess this year, so far, is that point.

Let's hope pushing players extremely hard last year isn't coming back to bite the White Sox.
May 2, 201312 yr There just had to be an article about how well the Sox stay healthy in the off-season didn't there? What a jinx that's become Jesus...
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Let's hope pushing players extremely hard last year isn't coming back to bite the White Sox. If that's true, it's yet another ding in Robin's armor.
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 07:03 PM) If that's true, it's yet another ding in Robin's armor. I wouldn't say it's his fault really. It's just the price you pay when you're in contention all season long. Unfortunately, the Sox have nothing to show for contending last year though.
May 2, 201312 yr Author I don't see how any of these injuries can be pinned on Ventura. Keppinger wasn't even a White Sox last year. Is his back problem Joe Maddon's fault? Edited May 2, 201312 yr by Dick Allen

May 2, 201312 yr At least guys aren't tearing labrums, like every single pitcher in the White Sox system in 2000 and 2001. *knocks on as much wood as possible* QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) There just had to be an article about how well the Sox stay healthy in the off-season didn't there? What a jinx that's become Jesus... Meh, if those articles don't happen every season, they should have for the last 11. The Sox are great about keeping players healthy.
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) Let's hope pushing players extremely hard last year isn't coming back to bite the White Sox. Of all of the people that were pushed hard, Peavy was not one of them. Him and Sale both got lots of extra days off and skipped starts.
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Well pushing a young bullpen and young starters and almost never using the bench hurts and that's kind of on Robin. Except none of the young starters or relievers are actually hurt.
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Well pushing a young bullpen and young starters and almost never using the bench hurts and that's kind of on Robin. Ozzie used his bench all the time and people hated it. He also let his starters stay in the learn, take their lumps, and he let his relievers face both sides of the plate and work 2-3 inning stints whether they had the ability to do it or not. People hated that too. Bottom line: bad team = put it on the manager, coaching staff, etc. Personally I think Robin has done just fine. No chicken stew when all you got is chicken poo.

Him and Sale both got lots of extra days off and skipped starts. Sale yes, but it seemed they pushed Peavy pretty hard last year. He was 5th in innings pitched. With that said, hopefully this is just a minor issue (I assume it is), and he'll be able to start again soon. Gavin's injury on the other hand..... Edited May 2, 201312 yr by fathom
May 2, 201312 yr We didn't push any pitchers last year. We had a 6 man rotation half the time. We never skipped a fifth starter. We handle those guys with kid gloves.
May 2, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) Except none of the young starters or relievers are actually hurt. True, but both Sale and Quintana haven't look great so far this season. Q seems to get gassed around the fifth and Sale didn't look good to start the game yesterday, but manned up for sure to get 7 strong in there, but the velocity is inconsistent which could be a sign of too many innings. We won't really know until later in the season.
