We're last in the league in offense. It's not an insult, it's good baseball. Willingham grounds into DPs all the time and a crafty pitcher like Axelrod can make that happen. Not to mention Mauer is hitting .350ish and Willingham is just north of .200. Mauer has reached in the first inning each game this series.

 

It sends a signal to the entire team you don't have confidence in them.

 

That will just cause the offense to press even more, and the pitchers to start getting frustrated with the hitting.

 

After the 6th inning, much less of a problem with it.
