Konerko to address media this afternoon

Featured Replies

Why's it mixed signals? The rumors all week were that Konerko would meet with the media and tell them that he hadn't made up his mind yet.

If that is the case no need to call a press conference to do that. He could say that with beat writers before or after game.

I was under the impression this is exactly what he's doing. It's the typical dugout interview with the media.

Why is comcast showing this one then?

In case he does decide to retire?

This is terrible treatment by the Sox. Call a press conference a day in advance, so the media can broadcast it live... to tell them the exact same thing they've been saying for months? Either we are all being faked out here, or the Sox completely bungled this.

I think quite the opposite. What more is Konerko going to accomplish? At the rate he's on, he's going to have to play a minimum of 5 more years to get to 500 homers. He's not going to win any individual awards. He's got a World Series ring.

Thome stuck around as long as he did to try and get a ring. He never was able to. But he got plenty of accolades - a silver slugger, 600+ homers - and decided that it was time to go (and also, no teams would sign him because he wanted to play this year too).

In other words, Thome played til they ripped the jersey off his back. they told him he couldn't play any more, ala Fisk. Some players are like that. Is Paulie? We shall see. I think he might be.

Cause it's the end of the season and he's PAUL KONERKO. Everybody wants an update.

They didn't bungle it. Fathom is right. He's doing a normal press session. Blame the media for televising it. He doesn't want to do 40 one on one interviews. This happens a lot on BIG STORIES and Paulie giving the end of season update on his status is a pretty big story. Blame the media for putting it on the radio; Paulie and the Sox didn't ask for that.

I can't hear him!

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Friday that the club will meet with Paul Konerko in two weeks to discuss his future.

Previous reports indicated that Konerko could come to some sort of decision this weekend, but he apparently wants to hear the team's plan for the future before making it final. For what it's worth, Hahn said they plan to spend money to acquire an impact free agent this winter.

Per Rotoworld

yep, he wants to take a month off to make a decision. This feels like a very similar situation to Urlacher.

Time to hang it up Paulie. It's been a good run.

Listening to Konerko talk about the decision, it sure as hell seems like he knows the right decision is to retire.

He said if he comes back, it will be his last year.

meh. I'll still venture on out there tonight just in case.

And to bid adieu to a wretched, wretched season.

Can someone please tell me what happened? I've been in a meeting all day and I'm sneaking this under the table

Though the audio is about as terrible as this season, from what I can hear it sounds like he's ready to hang it up.

Actually he did say 'probably' ... listen to it again.

So they called a media interview just to say they have nothing to say. Could've said that in a postgame interview.

Paul Konerko has announced that he doesn't know if he is going to retire or not, and CSN is carrying it live.

Konerko said the only place he'd consider being a part-time player is with the White Sox.

month off of what? the season ends this weekend

Nothing at all

Konerko said if he comes back, he'd have to be a better leader to the young players...strange answer

Yet he would want a full time player paycheck...................PASS.
