May 12, 201411 yr http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20140512 Charlotte and Birmingham with early games. Erik Johnson scheduled.
May 12, 201411 yr Author Johnson in trouble in the 2nd. single, single, double, single, single to start. 3-0 two on, nobody out. Edited May 12, 201411 yr by flavum
May 12, 201411 yr You can forget about Johnson coming back anytime soon. Fastball at 88 for a K. Still in trouble, though. There has to be something wrong mechanically or physically, you just don't lose 5+ MPH without an explanation. Gose up. Flies out to Danks. Our old friend Dan Johnson torched Erik Johnson. Two former White Sox. Edited May 12, 201411 yr by caulfield12
May 12, 201411 yr Author That's too bad about Johnson. A huge blow to the Sox if he can't come back and continue to develop. Edited May 12, 201411 yr by flavum
May 12, 201411 yr Davidson 0 for his last 9 since coming back from the hand injury. Still doesn't have a home run in Charlotte. Wilkins heating up a bit.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (flavum @ May 12, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) That's too bad about Johnson. A huge blow to the Sox if he can't come back and continue to develop. In true Mr. Pessimism form, this has been a bad year for Sox prospects. Two shocking busts so far this year in Davidson and E. Johnson.
May 12, 201411 yr Sanchez 2/2 but still limited to high 600's OPS. Davidson finally got a hit, at .159 currently, thrown out at 3rd base by Gose. Homers by Liddi and Jordan Danks. Tied 4-4 already going into the top of the fourth.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) In true Mr. Pessimism form, this has been a bad year for Sox prospects. Two shocking busts so far this year in Davidson and E. Johnson. Meanwhile, M. Johnson and Danish are blowing expectations out the water and Hawkins looks to be improving while Montas and Rondon are also shocking surprises with ++tools (Fastball and God Tier defense, respectively)

May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Danks must just feel a lot more comfortable in Charlotte.. Can't take the pressure of the big leagues Or he's got a big, slow, loopy swing that he can use to capitalize against inferior pitching that is sometimes on the mound in AAA, whereas that opportunity rarely shows itself in the majors.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 12, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Meanwhile, M. Johnson and Danish are blowing expectations out the water and Hawkins looks to be improving while Montas and Rondon are also shocking surprises with ++tools (Fastball and God Tier defense, respectively) We still don't know about Johnson's ultimate position defensively, and how much his stolen base technique will translate at the highest levels...his stolen base numbers are way down this year as he seemingly works on his all-around game. We also don't know about Danish's durability as a starter, as well as sustaining velocity and how he'll do at higher levels when he gets more heavily scouted. We don't know if Beck or Thompson will ever amount to much of anything. Until Rondon can put up a 725+ OPS in A ball, he can't be considered anything more than a utility prospect, like a Carlos Sanchez or Leury Garcia. Montas needs to pitch this well for 3+ months. One start, or two, does not a prospect make.

May 12, 201411 yr Sanchez up to .718 OPS and rising. A HR away from the cycle - that one will be difficult. Davidson with 2 hits and a double now - nice reverse-jinx fathom. Where you getting the EJohnson velo from, caulfield? Edited May 12, 201411 yr by Stan Bahnsen
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Sanchez up to .718 OPS and rising. A HR away from the cycle - that one will be difficult. Davidson with 2 hits and a double now - nice reverse-jinx fathom. Where you getting the EJohnson velo from, caulfield? Not sure where caufield got his, but Seth Lasko (Charlotte Observer beat reporter) had him usually 88-90 with the FB, but also said he got stronger as the game went on.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) Not sure where caufield got his, but Seth Lasko (Charlotte Observer beat reporter) had him usually 88-90 with the FB, but also said he got stronger as the game went on. He did finish much better today. But where has the velo gone?
May 12, 201411 yr Seth Lakso @SethLakso 50m Typo — Erik Johnson today: 6 IP 9 H 4 R 0 BB 7 Ks — 100 pitches (67* strikes). Retired the final seven batters.
May 12, 201411 yr Didnt realize Sanchez's numbers had climbed to where they are, not bad at all. Any idea why Micah didnt play today?
May 12, 201411 yr Johnson's keeping his walks down and K's up. That said, 88-90 MPH simply isn't going to get it done at the next level, unless you're Mark Buehrle or Tom Glavine.
May 12, 201411 yr Blast from the past. Gregory Infante, former Sox relief prospect, got the win when Guerra blew the save for the Knights.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (Dunt @ May 12, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) Didnt realize Sanchez's numbers had climbed to where they are, not bad at all. Any idea why Micah didnt play today? Speculation that he may be called up, given that Charlotte released INF Alex Liddi today.
May 12, 201411 yr QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 12, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) Speculation that he may be called up, given that Charlotte released INF Alex Liddi today. That only makes sense if they're planning to leave Semien in the utility role in Chicago. Then there's another looming question about how to handle the Keppinger situation. Edited May 12, 201411 yr by caulfield12
May 13, 201411 yr Isn't it likely that Semien or Garcia could be replacing him when Eaton comes off the dl?
May 13, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) That only makes sense if they're planning to leave Semien in the utility role in Chicago. Then there's another looming question about how to handle the Keppinger situation. Kepp is the proverbial bridge that you cross when you get to it. I can envision a "setback" in his recovery.
