July 28, 201510 yr How long until sweet swinging Carlos Sanchez passes Flowers in OPS? I'm guessing by the end of the series.
July 28, 201510 yr QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) He should take some of TFlow's AB's , and probably a few more than he has, but his health is definitely a limiter, and his defense is debatable. He's been very under-utilized as a DH, imo, and they gotta squeeze every run they can out of their lineups. His defense isn't any worse than Flowers'. But Flowers is Cooper's butt boy so he starts 6 times a week despite being a .5 WAR player over the course of his Sox career.

July 28, 201510 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) I was thinking that I hadn't seen enough lame gay jokes lately... I was just thinking it had been one post I wrote that you didn't bother to respond to with some pithy little comment. It's annoying and detracts from any real conversation. You're Skip Bayless level trolling me. Seriously, do I need to re-register under a new name so that you don't feel the need to quote and respond with your "I think the opposite" response to literally every single one of my posts that you read? Of all the things written on here you think "butt buddy" is worthy of pointing out? You need to seriously relax on my posts. In fact, I've tried to ignore you so I don't have to deal with it but you can't ignore admins. Go figure. How hard would it have been, if the post really offended you, to PM me and take it down? But that's not your style I guess you'd rather just fling s*** or take things out of context. Edited July 28, 201510 yr by chitownsportsfan

But that's not your style I guess you'd rather just fling s*** or take things out of context. I'd much rather you just didn't post unnecessary gay jokes. If you felt it was OK to publicly post, then yes, I needed to point it out. It wouldn't really matter what screen name you used, if someone else had posted the term "butt buddy" they would have gotten the same response. Terms like that demean anything intelligent that could have been said, and pretty much invalidates it. It has long been Soxtalk policy to not be a place that allows a few to demean entire groups of people just because a few might happen to look down on them. If that is too difficult, you are in the wrong place.
July 29, 201510 yr Geovany Soto? He should HIT HIT HIT and catch catch catch catch. Kinda like tonight.... Edited July 29, 201510 yr by Ballz-n-Strikes
July 29, 201510 yr Here's the biggest reason Tyler Flowers plays http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable...php?cid=1821757
July 29, 201510 yr Since the All-Star break, Geo Soto's numbers are: 5-12 (.417 AVG) 3 HR 5 RBI 1.896 OPS He's clearly a streaky hitter. From 4/15 to 5/28, these were his numbers: 10-58 (.172 AVG) 1 HR 6 RBI When he's on a hot streak like this, then I'm on board with giving him more starts. However, during his longer cold streaks, Flowers is obviously the better choice both offensively and defensively.
July 29, 201510 yr No matter how he hits, however, Soto always looks REALLY sloppy behind the plate whenever I am watching. To be fair, I have not watched a lot of Sox games this year, so maybe what I saw is not enough of a sample size, but he looks off balance all the time. Struggles to stay in a steady receiving position, and then falls over throwing the ball back to the pitcher from the crouch sometimes too. Say what you want about Tyler's offense, but he is pretty steady behind the dish and receives the ball without a lot of movement and noise.

And he has become one of the top catchers in all of baseball in pitch framing, if you buy into the stat. I have no idea how to balance that with the rest of his numbers, but right now Flowers is sitting at a -0.2 WAR, overall, and a -0.1 dWAR. The reality is if you added pitch framing in some form to his numbers, he is an above replacement player.
July 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) If Soto isn't catching more he needs to be DHing more. when a lefty is on the mound instead of LaRoche.
July 29, 201510 yr QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) If Soto isn't catching more he needs to be DHing more. Not a good idea to put your spare catcher in at any spot especially DH as tempting as getting his bat in there more might be
