Kind of surprised about Mitchell, but then I realized he didn't pitch last year. He was injured, I presume?

It was odd, I asked the Sox about Mitchell last year. My source said they'd get back to me and never did. Wasn't important enough to push it. No idea what was going on there, but must have been more than TJS or something.

 

Also, with him and Ziz, that's a couple fairly recent Top 10 rounds picks being released.

To be fair, John Ziznewski was a senior signing, who got a small bonus, so he probably shouldn't be thought of in that high of respect.

Trexler didn't get any hype at draft time... then all of a sudden he made some changes in camp in AZ after draft year, and his velo went from 88-91 to like 92-96, and he showed a plus breaking pitch according to not one but two different scouting sources from different sites. That's why he jumped onto the radar. Kind of shocked they let him go this quickly.

 

None of the rest are surprises.
