Has Buehrle been approached?

Featured Replies

I realize this topic has probably been beaten to death here, but I can't find it.

Google searching for news on Buehrle makes everything seem like crickets so far.

Is he just holding out for a Cardinals offer, staying retired otherwise?

Last I heard Buehrle has not officially retired, but he hasn't been throwing either. If he were to pitch this season he'd probably need a few months to get into shape.

He had offers in the offseason but turned them down. I'd say in all likelihood we'll never see Mark Buehrle pitch again.

So why not hold a press conference and just retire?

That's because there is no news. Teams tried to get him over the winter, he didn't care. I doubt he wants to pitch, otherwise he would be pitching now.

Buehrle never really stayed in shape to begin with. He was never a guy who was hitting the gym multiple times a week in the offseason.

He did get to a point where he had to start doing though after an off year. At his age, it would take some work to get back into shape after not having done so all winter.

Buehrle has been approached

by a couple bears and probably some elk as well.

Would he ever do that?

I can't see him coming back ever. He just doesn't seem like he's the type to stop playing, and then go, "I really miss pitching and getting cortisone shots and being away from family".

The guy likes hunting and his family. That's not good.

Adam LaRoche could stand to learn how to handle his off-field business from Mark Buehrle.

Still he likes the same things. He's a freak. What kind of an idiot walks away from the money Buehrle could be making to spend more time with his family and go shoot animals? Next thing you know Buerhle will want to take his pitbull to work with him.

Ok, not a presser but a statement?

I would figure that he might like to stop the teams from calling him if he has no actual interest in coming back.

...which is why I think the White Sox might be able to lure him in.

They have $13 million of extra cash, nothing to lose but letting him get into shape on his own timetable, and he walks in as a savior to the franchise he had his storybook success with while they are in contention...call me crazy but I could see it.

Unless he has been working toward pitching, it's pretty unreasonable to think he would be ready to pitch in a couple of months, especially considering how he ended last season injured and not on the playoff roster. He's toast at least this season. Hopefully some good options pop up as they normally do when more teams are willing to pull the plug.

Mark Buehrle is playing first base in a softball league in St. Charles, MO. I have been told he is waiting for the Sox to give him a one day contract so he can retire a White Sox.

I heard the Sox are lowballing him on the one day contract right now, but they will probably budge at some point.

I think you need to just let Mark go bud.

i doubt Buehrle would want to come in and take Danks job like that. Im pretty sure those guys are friends

That is probably the best thought in this whole thread. I can't see Mark intentionally doing that to Danks.

All joking aside, I really would like Buerhle to sign a 1 day contract to retire a white sox.

If you think I was joking, I wasn't.

I actually didn't think you were joking but the posts referencing you were tongue in cheek so I thought you might.

I will definitely be at that game he retires at. He was white sox baseball for me, moreso than even Thomas just due to age.

I've been told they are waiting for game 7 of the World Series and are going to have Buehrle come in and get the final out.
