Paul Sullivan of the Tribune did an entire story about what Maddon thinks about the White Sox -- and I thought that was lazy as hell.

 

Who cares what Maddon thinks? He's won one fewer World Series than Ned Yost, Charlie Manuel and Ozzie Guillen.

 

And one other thing: The Sun Times sends out a sport email letter every day if you sign up for it:

 

The number one story they touted this morning was promoting the upcoming Cubs/Giants Series. No. 2 was Sale going 9-0.

 

If you're going to promote an upcoming series, wouldn't the White Sox playing the World Series champs IN TOWN rate ahead of a Cubs-Giants series?

 

The Cub groveling is ridiculous.

It is still lazy journalism. The part about asking Cubs staff, White Sox related questions is a side bar to the main point that each team should be treated as its own entity when no cross over exists. Chris Sale should not have to answer questions about Jake Arrieta when Chris Sale is the one who has done something that no one else in baseball has done since 2008.

Did they ask Rizzo two years ago about Abreu and his hot start and who was the better first baseman?

 

 

In general, it doesn't matter what team from the ALCD won the World Series, it would get overshadowed in "flyover territory" by the East Coast/ESPN bias...or the West Coast/California bias.

 

That's one thing that always drives Cubs and Cardinals fans crazy, to feel looked down upon by New Yorkers or denizens of the City of Angels...or San Franciscans...heck, even people from Seattle the last 20 years look down on Midwesterners.

In reality, everyone in baseball whether pitcher, hitter, manager, mascot should be asked about Quintana every day of their lives.

But if you follow the series over the years, the infatuation with that rivalry is over. it was novel for the first decade the games counted, but now people just care less than ever. Yeah, Sox and Cubs fans give each other a ribbing or whatever, but the excitement over that silly series has subsided locally. The national media just hasn't paid enough attention to notice.

As a White Sox fan I would like to request a media moratorium on one specific thing. Can we quit asking White Sox players questions about the Cubs. For example, last night in the midst of the post game interviews where Chris Sale became the first White Sox pitcher to go 9-0 in his first 9 starts since Eddie Cicotte in 1919, someone asked him about Jake Arrieta. Why? Why not ask him about Chris Sale? Or someone in the American League?

 

It is lazy journalism on behalf of the sports journalists in Chicago for their White Sox related questioning to keep coming back to the Cubs. Stop it. It is insulting and irrelevant. Especially when the White Sox have nothing to do with the Cubs. They aren't in the same division or league, and they aren't playing each other. It is my direct challenge to the sports writers and broadcasters of Chicago to step up their game and actually come up with some relevant questions for Chicago White Sox staff and players.

That is a great post. ... The only positive is I for some stupid reason thought the Sox were actually motivated to keep winning at an amazing clip as sort of a slap in the Cubs face. Probably 75% of their audience are Cubs fans, ;why wouldn't they grovel at the larger part of their crowd?

Not true. They were actually asked about us at press conferences and spoke highly of us. To bad we've sacked donkey balls since then though.

But even since it has been made mildly meaningful it has mostly fizzled.

That is probably the crux of it, really. The difference between today and yesterday and the day before is just so small you can understand why the questions get weirder.

I try to not let these clowns get to me. We haven't had winning baseball in a while now. I just want to enjoy the ride.

So in the midst of being named to the All-Star team, someone had to ask Chris Sale about Jake Arrieta.

Yes to some extent this Cubs infatuation is driven by the audience, but also the media drives the audience withs 30 years of Cubs hyperbole.
