  1. It’s been my understanding that the White Sox have been wanting to negotiate a long-term deal with Jimenez since last year. $70-80M figure had been tossed around. Certainly fair enough, and would have obviated the service time issue. Turning down generational wealth is nuts. I think Scott Kingery or Johnny Danks would vouch for that. I don’t think TA regrets his deal. Sure, it cost Sale a lot of money, but his arm could have blown out like Danks. There is a greed element with the players and agents too.
  2. I’m not seeing Robert on that line-up card.
  3. TBaseball America put out a podcast yesterday updating the 2019 Mlb draft outlook. The headline take is whisperings that Andrew Vaughn may be in the conversation as the #1 pick. Adley Rutschman has been considered a mortal lock for that spot, but Vaughn is hitting at an unworldly level again this season. He’s OBP is at .850 and is slugging a thousand with 7 homers in 11 games. He could be the best college hitter in 20 years. He already was the college POY last year. Rutschman himself has been having another fine season so far. Bobby Witt continues to look good and has the highest ceiling in the draft. He’s a surefire major league shortstop. CJ Abrams also looking very good, and these are the Top 4 right now. Presently no pitching is cracking the Top 10.
  4. So Kenny and Harper really liked each other. What is this, kindergarten?
  5. Think y’all are angry? What about the tv guys who signed up for this crap.
  6. What exactly is Kenny William’s role on this club? He’s a common thread to the meager player scouting/development.
  7. Wrong thread, but catcher Langeliers at Baylor out for a “few weeks” with broken hamate bone.
  8. Fine writing by James Fox, but Garfein was let off way too easy. I heard with my own ears him blaming the fans for not supporting the team well enough financially, leading to this fiasco. He’s like a 14 year old cheerleader for the organization.
  9. Ok then. Machado last 3 years away combined OPS .776 wRc+ 102
  10. While this is going to sound like sour grapes, Manny is hardly a generational talent. He’s a superlative defender but rather ordinary offensively away from Camden Yards. Machado: 7 years 69 hrs, .271ave. 104 wRc+. 762OPS as compared to Yonder Alonzo, away: 43 hrs, .274ave. 106 wRc+ .756 OPS
  11. But.... the taxes!!! A little glad I don’t have to root for the Ndamakung Suh of baseball.
  12. Neither Harpchado will take home more than $10M/ yr if some people have their way. 70% tax if > $10M plus another 10% state tax plus real estate tax, agents, lawyers, accountants, etc. Plus 50% tax on the first $10M Lucky to bring home $5M out of $35M.
  13. And Preller got hoodwinked by Boras last year in the Hosmer deal. Maybe Preller is trying to drive down the price on Moustakis , who must be texting his superagent every 20 minutes. Everybody is playing each other.
  14. If Kopech is on the opening day roster 2020, then he has 5 full years service time left, and Sox will have lost a year of service due to the injury. However, if they send him to Charlotte till around June 1, then the Sox get the rest of 2020 plus the 5 more years. The trick is , he has to be sent down for performance issues and not as a rehab or injury situation. You know, “ he needs to fine tune his command “ at AAA.
  15. Kopech has the TJS on September 19. That’s only 4 1/2 months. I hope he’s not rushing it.
  16. A couple of other factoids on Lucas: he was the 5th slowest worker in baseball last year at 27 seconds between pitches, and he was No.1 in most stolen bases allowed, 7 more than the next worst. Pick off attemps too numerous to count. Mound presence woeful I have found him so unbearable to watch that I rather switch off the tv and listen to Ed Farmer. I really hope they put him on a 18 second count and let it rip
  17. I don’t know if Hahn has that much hope for Banuelos. Putting out the scout’s name was passing the responsibility for the pick. Hostetler did the same in the last draft on the Steele Walker pick. He mentioned a certain scout was pounding the table on Walker.
  18. I’m a little surprised the Sox haven’t announced a move to the Grapefruit League yet. Miami, perhaps. Lol. Seriously, I don’t think Manny is in a hurry to spend six weeks in Arizona. I’d say the Sox land him about March 5th.
  19. If there is someone more treacherous than Boras/Lozano it’s Preller of the Padres. I believe it was one of the national writers that said the Padres were interested in Mike Moustakis, just a few days ago. Now suddenly The Padres are interested In Machado. It could be Preller is wanting to put some pressure on Boras/Moustakis, and that’s all there is to it.
  20. There was a thorough analysis done recently on that. The players have to pay taxes to every state for the days worked there. No taxes due for a 3 game series in Seattle as Washington doesn’t have a state income tax. Mariners players pay the least in baseball, about 3%. California players around 9%. Chicago roughly 5%. The 4% difference between Chicago and SD on a $250M contract would be $10M, plus a higher cost of living there.
  21. Any sense of Hahn’s body language during his remarks?
  22. Remember, the bucks stop at Jerry’s desk.
  23. If the Dodgers ask about Bush slam down the phone. They do scouting very well.
