  2. lol, in my experience, being a nimby is people showing up to a planning meeting to oppose an old folk's home, not being mad about putting an industrial site smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. This isn't the 1950s anymore as much as you and Trump may wish it still was.
  3. Let me get this straight. The residents of Bridgeport are upset that a ....freight yard.... is going to be turned into a ...more modernized indoor maintenance facility? Lol
  4. I know we were rumored to be interested in Cags back in his draft year - what’s the story with McCarthy being an “almost Sox” guy?
  5. Looks like start time is being delayed until 7:00. Hopefully that will mitigate any risk of interrupting Burke.
  6. Holy smokes!
  7. Have to figure W’s for Detroit and Cleveland. Hopefully the Pads take care of business and we pull down a White Sox Winner to pad our lead. The SWEEP THE CENTRAL campaign remains king.
  8. We need someone to pitch like an ace for the next 6 to 10 weeks.
  9. Twins 3.5 gb @ Evil Padres 8:40 (last NL WC by 1 game over AZ) Tigers 5 gb @ Royals 7:10 Guardians 4.5 gb @ Rockies 7:40
  10. Indeed to both of you. I actually quoted h. jones’ list of potential concessions in a former comment, which was then quoted by nrockwell, so I’m glad to see we’re all on the same page of this discussion Speaking of discussion, in the latest Sox Machine article about this, Josh Nelson mentioned this: If both Reinsdorf and Ishbia are aligned on the site, is it safe to say that the 78 is dead, but the 14th Street Yard is coming? If so, that may call for another evolution of this discussion’s name.
  11. Dagnabit - Sure hope not. Here in Southern California it’s 105 today. Rain sounds like a dream come true. Having weather mess with our pitching staff is about the last thing this team needs.
  12. Looking at the lineup for tonights game only makes me hope that Burke has a good game tonight.
  13. Pretty sure that’s the first or second time I’ve tagged our almighty dunce during the year. Minions going to minion. Totally fine for the all powerful to sling gay slurs / insults at me while I’m navigating a potential cancer diagnosis — but dare I tell him off, that “won’t be tolerated.” Back to your scheduled programming whereas I certainly will not tell anyone to f*** off but rather will say the same thing in more words that all have positive connotations. Tune in next week for another Jerry Springer edition of Soxtalk. Until then, let’s win this fucking game!
  14. It's actually a really good source for general info, despite the predictably rightward/anti-immigrant/"Sharia Law" editorial bent.
  15. John Mulaney loves the New York Post! (it starts at 2:40).
  16. Trajekt will save the day. I really think the Sox having one at the park is one reason they have one of the best home records in baseball. It must be extremely helpful to “hit” off the opposing pitcher before the game. Imagine dialing up any specific pitchers most thrown pitch and being able to take 50 swings off that exact pitch before game time. Then our guys can go up during the game and sit on that pitch with a LOT more comfort.
  17. Now you've done it Bill! We're getting a rain out for sure.
  18. Absolutely this. I don't see how residents can get this project cancelled and thus killing $700M in federal grants for Amtrak facility upgrades and viaduct repairs and also killing a proposed medical innovation campus for Northwestern. However, if I were them, my ultimate goal would be to extract as many of these kind of concessions as possible. It's not unheard of for companies to agree to these kind of things to mitigate the impacts on the community. In addition to noise abatement, I would seek assurances that there won't be excessive light pollution into the surrounding residential area from the new facility. These are the kind of things developers often agree to. Added greenspace for the area, too. The possible air emissions aren't nothing if we're talking about diesel trains idling for extended periods. Could the idling times be limited somehow?
  19. That's a really professional at-bat there...errrr...post. Please get rid of this over used (rapidly becoming inane) phrase from all baseball/softball broadcasts, stat!
  20. Indeed. Amtrak does have eminent domain power, but those generally cannot be used to seize land belonging to a state government, i.e. Lots C and G. That’s why I mentioned a few comments ago that those lots being owned by the ISFA might slow things down, unless Amtrak plans on purchasing that land outright. To southsider2k5’s point, Amtrak could use those powers if necessary, but eminent domain is generally done as a last-resort. This is also likely why the Ishbia/private equity approach is so attractive to them.
