November 12, 201411 yr Erik Johnson and Viciedo for Ryan Howard and $35M dollars. And to save people from googling....The $35 million would cover Howard's 2017 buyout and basically leave us on the hook for 12.5M the next 2 seasons and nothing more. How much would you hate it? How much would you hate it?
November 12, 201411 yr I would turn into a giant gorilla and climb buildings, beating them repeatedly until they were destroyed and crumbled to the ground.
November 12, 201411 yr I would hate it. That still has us paying 12.5M per season for a guy who posted a
November 12, 201411 yr I would hate it enough to quit my job and dedicate myself, for years if necessary, to becoming a night-time janitor at the White Sox executive offices so that I could take a s*** on Rick Hahn's desk.
November 12, 201411 yr Ryan Howard's OPS the last 3 years is .720. 2 of those years, he only played 1/2 the season. Last year, he put up a career worst .690 OPS. Maybe he gives a tiny improvement in health and performance if he's a full time DH, but would you pay $12 million a season for a full time DH giving even a .720 OPS? That's the same amount of money we paid for Adam Dunn for a guy performing much worse than Adam Dunn right now. Even counting Dunn's disastrous 2011 campaign, Dunn outproduced that while on this current contract.
November 12, 201411 yr This is the kind of move a GM like Rick Hahn dupes a GM like Ruben Amaro Jr into making, not the other way around.
November 12, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) I can't get past the title. Did it get worse from there? Don't be that guy, no one likes that guy. I'm aware here is a homonym and I needed hear. That's what I get for using the swype keyboard on my phone I guess.
November 12, 201411 yr Author Feel free to call me what you want but I wouldn't hate it at all. The situation became toxic for Howard in Philly a few years ago and I think a change of scenery with a ton of pressure released from his shoulders could really help him. Don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think he would be even remotely close to his old self, but if he can come close to his 2011 season he would still be a steal at $12M. .250/.340/.475 with 30 HR's hitting behind Abreu is not unreasonable in my opinion. Of course this is never going to happen, but its a fun discussion to have before the real action of the off season starts.

I'll take "Adam Dunn, but worse" for the prospect of a giant gorilla terrorizing North Dakota.
November 13, 201411 yr I would MUCH rather beg, plead and if necessary threaten Adam Dunn into coming out of retirement and wearing a Sox uni for one more season.
