White Sox hold hitters minicamp this week. Tim Anderson, Keon Barnum, Matt Davidson, Adam Eaton, Courtney Hawkins, Micah Johnson are there.

God I love him.

And the people who should be there are not there... brilliant.

Not to split this into an ethnicity thing, but this appears to be a group of young American hitters. Not that they couldn't have Latino or Hispanic players involved with this, but there may also be visa issues getting those guys back into the country right now while these guys are allowed to travel freely, or these other guys are playing winter ball or who knows.

Also, I think all of these guys are the highest priority among players who need this kind of thing. Really, the only guy here who doesn't need the mini-camp is Eaton.

Who should have been there?

I checked in, this is not the whole list.

To be clear, as SS2K5 pointed out, there are a LOT more people there than that short list indicates.

Also bear in mind that many LatAm prospects are playing with winter league teams right now, and their playoffs are starting, so they are likely not in AZ for that reason.

This took place last year too. Who were the players and what were their results last year? I think I recall Conor and Abreu being some of the guys.

You'd think Viciedo would be there.

I would think announcing Viciedo would be there with a bunch of rookies learning how to hit would not help his trade value. He may be there in the end, but they would probably not want to advertise it.

Why? If he hasn't learned it by now, he isn't going to.

the thing is, it is not that he knows it, or if he does know it.

it is that thing between his ears.....

maybe sending him back will reinforce it.

I will do everything short of guaranteeing that Dayan Viciedo is in another organization to begin the year.

99.9999%?

I think you can grab the missing .0001 from the Bonafacio signing. 8M+ next year between those 2 f***wads? I don't see it.

It seems like this is becoming a tradition for the Sox and Todd Severson, which is good. The best organizations in baseball stress uniformity across their farm systems. What you teach in the DSL are the same things being reinforced in the majors.

Another reason went I'm glad to beat this is that this minicamp paid dividends all those who attended, especially for Courtney Hawkins. It's also cool to see Adam Eaton there, he's going to have a huge year.

a very good point. the hitting philosophy needs to be constant.

nice post.

I get the feeling that Adam Eaton is going to be there with all the rookies because he kept pestering Steverson about wanting to go, and Todd finally said okay to shut him up. Lol. He seems like the baseball rat that just wants to be around baseball 24/7.

Can there be 2 Rats in one town though? Maybe the different sports help.

This video is a 2015 season preview for the Sox which should get everybody even more pumped up about the upcoming season. It features offensive, defensive and pitching highlights of LaRoche, Melky, Samardzija, Robertson and Duke. Same for Sale, Abreu, Alexei, Quintana, Eaton, Conor, Flowers, Avisail and the drafting of Carlos Rodon. The music is louder than Hawk on the highlights and other video footage but some of you may prefer that. It's 20 minutes long but a fun watch.
