January 28, 201511 yr Author QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) Have the Sox gotten any compensation back from the Angels for him yet? Not that I've seen. I was going to ask one of the Soxtalk guys to ask Hahn or somebody this past weekend, but forgot.
January 28, 201511 yr This is like Kirk Hinrich returning to Chicago. Fans remember when they were banking a lot on a guy and it didnt result in great things. And they carry this feeling into the new situation, when the reacquired guy is low risk and ...not-meaningful...anymore. He should be treated on a second go around as simply what his new role is, no more no less. Edited January 28, 201511 yr by Jose Paniagua
January 28, 201511 yr He was pretty good with the Angels (~.750 OPS). I don't mind him in as a utility guy. Play him a bit at 3rd and 2B, use him against LHP. Put up a .780 OPS against LHP last year. Although his career split against LHP is pretty close to his splits against RHP (which is basically to say, not very good). Beckham as an every day starter, is an awful idea. Beckham in a back-up bench role, isn't a bad idea at all (especially if the price is right).
January 28, 201511 yr Author If he never played for the Sox, I'd say it's a good fit. But with his past expectations/failures, I just don't like it.

January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) If he never played for the Sox, I'd say it's a good fit. But with his past expectations/failures, I just don't like it. This is exactly how I view it. I was just thinking about him today too, which is funny. Really, if he were brought in as a backup, I'd have no problem with this move at all.
January 28, 201511 yr Author If he comes back, there needs to be a "Your Love" ban at the Cell. Not allowed.
January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) If he comes back, there needs to be a "Your Love" ban at the Cell. Not allowed. ah, forgot about that. i'm now for this, actually.
January 28, 201511 yr Author QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) I think Hawk just ended his plan to take games off in 2015. That's already done. Bad team=more time with the grandkids. Good team=egomaniac can't miss a day.
January 28, 201511 yr As disappointed as I was with Beckham last year, he actually wouldn't be a bad platoon partner for Connor. His splits versus LHP look good for last year (.293 BA, .780 OPS).
January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (Whitey @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) As disappointed as I was with Beckham last year, he actually wouldn't be a bad platoon partner for Connor. His splits versus LHP look good for last year (.293 BA, .780 OPS). Thanks for bringing the splits, but it's a 25-man roster, we can't platoon everybody. I don't see Gordon being much help next year.
January 28, 201511 yr Eh, on a cheap one year deal... I am OK with it. Bring him in and let him earn a job.
January 28, 201511 yr On a 1 year deal...fine. The Kirk Hinrich comparison was good. Although we have another year of Kirk after this year(yuck).
January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Not that I've seen. I was going to ask one of the Soxtalk guys to ask Hahn or somebody this past weekend, but forgot. He was asked. His reply was that he was aware Gordon was currently a free agent. He will be cheap. I like the gamble.

January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) The question was- did the Sox get compensation from the Angels from the trade last year? The White Sox acquired cash funds.
January 28, 201511 yr Author QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) The White Sox acquired cash funds. If true, nobody reported it and it never made the MLB transaction page.
January 28, 201511 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) The White Sox acquired cash funds. Yeah, I think after the off season going rolling, it was obvious that this was what had to have happened, since we never got transaction within the 6 months time.
