Beckham played 3B exclusively in his first season, then he was parked at 2B for the next 4 years. In that 4th season as 2B, he played 6 innings over two games at SS when Alexei Ramirez was subbed out.

Vaughn and Sox avoid arbitration: $5.85 million

What are you even talking about? They paid and locked up Eloy, Yoan and Luis Robert. You guys repeat this nonsense so much like facts don't even exist. -
Jesus, we act like every baseball player's a quivering mass of broken psyche jello, and one bad game will ruin him for life. He had a back injury this last year which affected his mobility. He also had a personal issue that he played through.

Montgomery is going to come up as a shortstop. He's not going to move to 3B after 4 games. He'll get the rest of his rookie season to play shortstop. Rojas has a one year deal.

Thanks for posting.

I have no idea what these strings are pointing to. Are they all strings about the Front Office speaking positively about the future? I can't imagine being continuously surprised that a corporate spokesperson doesn't sound like a drunken, angry fan cloaked by the anonymity of the internet.

Mike Shirley was hired by the old regime, and seems to be part of the decision making team, now. I guess he sucks, now, too.

You mean how many teams with a bad 1B would be "lining up" to sign an equally bad 1B so that they have 2 bad 1B? I'm sure the number would be zero. I'm sure the Pirates will be buoyed by Anthony Rizzo's history of good production. LOL. -
And outside people seem to be speaking well of what Getz is doing. I don't really remember too many people praising Hahn. KW was kind of made out as a dupe in Moneyball, and an intolerable a-hole in other reporting about his dealings with players. Hahn didn't get much separation from that.

He explained that pretty thoroughly. Sometimes, the problem isn't the line of coaches a team chews through, it's the fundamental approach of the team. It's not so black and white as, "the team didn't hit, the coach must have turned stupid". If coaches are so interchangeable, then maybe shoring up communication between departments, and targeting the use of analytics could be the problem, regardless of who the coach is.

Fair enough. I'll be wrong on this one. -

Vaughn needed a year or two in the minors to not be ass with the glove. That's not even manipulation. -
My point isn't that Henderson is now bad, it's that offense does go on a 2 day vacation while you still need top level starting pitching in the playoffs.
-
Not when he goes 0-7 in a 2 game playoff series.

And those guys who are old or on the downside of their careers will get starting jobs on baseball teams this year, some, on contenders. I'm not sure what you're arguing, really. Players who used to be better are bad, now, and because of that, they're comparable to Andrew Vaughn and that's no fair? -

Now you're making excuses. Which is it, they performed worse than expected, or are they on the down side of their careers? Rizzo, Bell and Tellez are on a two year skid as replacement level production. You can also toss Jon Singleton into that group. You are acting like Vaughn is an unprecedented level of bad that is unique to the dysfunction here. His defense kills his numbers. His level of offense is starting at 1B for a good third of the league. Can the Sox do better? Yes. Can Vaughn do better? Maybe. But they're in a rebuild, and 1B is a position that is covered in house with a relatively cheap option for a losing season. I would think it the Sox load up on bats in the draft, the next couple international classes, and in the last round of trades, somebody will fail out of their position, and wind up at 1B. -

At this point in his career, Vaughn is definitely a disappointment. He's still a WIP, and I think it's hyperbole to call him a bust, and to claim he should have never been drafted at #3. There were a good 8 contending clubs that ran that sort of production out there at 1B, though. Anthony Rizzo, Rowdy Tellez, Rhys Hoskins, Josh Bell. All of these guys will get starting jobs, and some will be on contending clubs. Maybe Vaughn's defense drops him out of that group, but he's not a clear step below that clump of players. -

Obviously. Courtney Hawkins was a bust. Zach Collins was a bust. Andrew Vaughn isn't what he's supposed to be. -

A "bust" doesn't put up league average production. Andrew Vaughn is a league average hitter. Yes, he needed to be a superstar, being drafted at #3. Calling him a complete bust is silly. -

That's what they did to Viciedo. -
Romy Gonzalez blossomed into a solid utility player who has a good manager that picks his spots to succeed. If Gonzalez was on the WSox, he would have started at 2B, become overexposed, and wound up OPSing .540.
-
It's not even timing. A team can't run a farm system by relying on only their first rounders to succeed in the majors. It's getting an international scouting flow working, it's maximizing the draft, and it's being able to target and grab players who are underperforming in other systems.

Grandal is treated like a punchline here, but the stat-head, framing nerds loved him. That was a big signing when it happened.

At the 45 minute mark - he talks about not spending right now, basically about being on the right point of the win curve before you splurge.
