  1. I like how, if they win, the games don't matter. If they lose, of course they matter!! Pick a lane, Duber. I hope he's not referring to Fletcher's misplay on that triple. The sky in Arizona is notoriously hard to judge fly balls against. And the no-hitter wasn't an "almost" no hitter. That's petty of the score keeper to rule a clear hit as an error to keep the "no hitter" going. Jonathan Cannon seems to have thrown a nice 2 innings. Each team had 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. I'd call that a draw.
  2. Colas is growing on me, again. Just stay off of Instagram.
  3. Looks like a nice outing for Jonathan Cannon. I wonder how hard those two fly outs were hit.
  4. Maybe DeJong plays his way off the team before St. Pat's day.
  5. Of course it is. Bellinger looked totally cooked for 2 whole seasons. Even the kings of all baseball evaluation, The Dodgers, non-tendered him. The Cubs signed him for a cheap, one-year, show me contract, and here he is. Bellinger's having a hard time cashing in on his resurgence.
  6. The Cubs have a pitcher named Richard Lovelady. I wonder if his family name was changed at Ellis Island by a very nice border guard. "Mr. Lovescock, your American name will be Lovelady."
  7. That was nice hustle by Colas. Maybe he's cured, and it was all the bad attitudes in the clubhouse, after all. God, Fletcher is short. Harry Chappas short. I would think that between 2 announcers, somebody could tell me who this guy without a name on his jersey is in the batter's box. Okay, I'm ready for DeJong's and Lopez's replacements to make them expendable. Jesse Chavez will tell his grandkids about this game. Tonight, he'll call them and tell them. I'm on the Bryan Ramos train. They should cut Gil Luna so they can just make him a roving instructor to teach all the pitchers in the organization that pick off move. Johan Dominguez should start opening day.
  8. That's not really unfathomable. Between replacing negative production with better than replacement, and the veterans regressing to the mean, they could scrape 72 wins.
  9. Sorry, 6 pages back, so this was probably answered 5 times, already. Fringey. Strikes out a lot, so it's expected that Elko will get exposed as he plays higher up in the minors. But that was a nice dong. The flyout to right-center was loud, too.

I think until my sports team starts asking me to disassociate myself from friends and family, or even hate and shun non-believers, I'm good.

Wait, who went out with TJS?

I saw it as a good thing, where they can put him on the 60-day IL, evaluate him in Charlotte on a rehab assignment, and stow him jut long enough on the MLB roster to keep him. Every single news item doesn't need to be the white sox messing up at every single level spectacularly.
  13. Joe Musgrove looks horrible in his first 2/3 IP of spring training. I wonder how many conversations Getz has had with San Diego in the last hour. Hurry before anybody posts video of Cease playing catch.
  14. The downside? Leading the league in errors again? Another couple of bench clearing brawls over nothing? I'm not skilled enough to know if TA is done or not, but he's certainly a change of scenery candidate. They don't need every single player on the roster to be "flippable". I'm guessing Cease, Soroka, Brebbia and Knebel will get attention. I don't even think TA's a shortstop anymore. Which means he's Elvis Andrus. In a good year. I'm fine with DeJong and Lopez.
  15. I would think they would play around with DeJong and Lopez out of position before they move Monty off of short.

Aside from the $1.5 million payroll, I think the difference is negligible. DeJong is probably the more consistent defensive shortstop, right? Rosario's a little better with the bat.
  17. Yeah, I'm pretty excited about Fedde. He was as high as the #52 Baseball America prospect, pre-2017, so it's not like he's a schlub who learned the knuckleball, or something.

I would have liked the Sox to have grabbed S-N. Fangraphs wasn't enamored in 2023: 39. Canaan Smith-Njigba, LF Drafted: 4th Round, 2017 from Rockwall Heath HS (TX) (NYY) Age 23.8 Height 6′ 0″ Weight 215 Bat / Thr L / R FV 35+ Tool Grades (Present/Future) Hit Raw Power Game Power Run Fielding Throw 30/45 60/60 35/45 45/45 40/45 45 The older brother of Ohio State wide receiver phenom Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Canaan is another of the many prospects acquired from the Yankees for Jameson Taillon. The barrel-chested Smith-Njigba has huge strength-driven power and a patient approach that borders on passive. He has a career .387 OBP but hasn’t been able to actualize his plus raw power in games, driving the ball into the ground at a whopping 66% clip in 2021 and a 54% rate in 2022. His size creates some stiffness and imbalance during his swing, which can lead to him putting suboptimal contact in play. When Smith-Njigba takes a comfortable, max-effort hack, it’s obvious that he has big power, and his exit velo data reinforces the visual evaluation. In most cases, corner-only outfielders who play consistent big league roles have better actualized their raw power in games. Smith-Njigba’s on-base skills drive an above-replacement forecast here, but it’s tough to project a real big league role, and he may be an interesting candidate for teams in Asia.
  19. I could see this team being at 48-60 by the trade deadline, if Cease doesn't get traded in spring training. If they trade Cease, Soroka, anybody from the bullpen who can fog a mirror, I could then see them crashing, burning, and finishing with about 68 wins.

He went by the 8 worst teams in baseball twice, now, without a flyer. He must not be that well regarded.
