The White Sox ate $11M on Leury's contract when they cut him in ST 2023. I don't see that as a harbinger for how Benny will be dealt with, tho I agree with Chicago White Sox dude that Benny won't be here in 2027. As far as the 2026 FA market, there's always non-tenders we won't know about until November, 2026. Austin Hays is a cheaper dude with no strings (QA) attached who could probably be gotten cheap on a one year show-me contract. Leury is also the answer to "last time IF moved to OF successfully". FanGraphs didn't hate his defense.

Because you won't acknowledge any counter arguments, then move on. You're arguing philosophies. The Sox aren't going to jump in and sign Santander, probably for all the arguments registered here, and mostly because that contract would just be too big a hit to a cheap crisis budget. Dude, when Loyola has a deep tournament run, or Northwestern goes to a bowl game, suddenly, everybody's walking around my neighborhood wearing Loyola or NW swag. Yes, people get excited by a winner. Then they decide to become further invested, or not. If the team has sustained success, then, yeah, people consider themselves Rambler fans, or US women's basketball or whatever fans. When something becomes popular, people follow it. Conversely, when a team starts losing, people stop going; stop watching. That's really not some profound discovery. I really don't understand the manufactured panic of "OMG!! nobody will be Sox fans!!" If they win, they'll come out of the woodwork.

When somebody resorts to quoting attendance figures, and the hyperbole of "the Sox must do the thing I want, or the children will stop caring!!!" - it says to me you understand your own argument is so silly that you need a sideshow.

It's a measuring stick in as much as it's used to make facetious arguments. It measures nothing for me. When the Sox win, again, fans will come back. Maybe your kids won't. Oh well. Get new kids.

You just had this entire convo with Chicago White Sox dude. You won't acknowledge any of his points as being close to valid, so why do it again? There are zero White Sox prospects who have established themselves in a role with the parent club. The fact that some players will get time on the ML squad isn't an automatic reason to start overpaying for tier B and C free agents.

You ignored the fact that the 90's teams started with a strong and deep core of home grown stars that the Sox added to. They also had a 2nd wave of prospects hit between 97 and 2001.

Well the guy who was in charge for your 9 year window was also in charge for the next 4 years, and was the VP 11 seasons after that. KW had a core of cheap, home-grown players (Buehrle, Garland, Crede, Rowand, Thomas, Konerko, Lee, Ordonez), and he added to it. And this all springs from the original "core" they built through the minors of Thomas, Ventura, Durham, Guillen, McDowell, Fernandez, Alvarez, Bere, Konerko, One-Dog. They didn't start that by signing a bunch of over-priced, aging, B tier free agents.

That would suggest you don't understand that agreements are made years in advance of the actual signings. The White Sox will honor what Paddy has lined up already. The trade of international space to the Dodgers for Aldrin Batista and Maximo Martinez was a great use of signing space. I don't see the problem making more trades of that type while deals for 14 year olds are lined up to sign in future classes. It's almost like a person has fallen down the stairs a bunch of times, and when he says it's important to stop falling down the stairs, everybody else starts arguing with him because "history".

No, actually, it's like we did. Drafts were about first rounders who needed little polish before being promoted. International signings were about picking up fully developed professionals. There was little investment in development. Now we have a guy whose focus is on building up our minor league system. The Sox already have a top 5 system, mostly based on changes they've made to pitching development. If you would kill for the days of KW grabbing up Rob Mackowiak and Juan Pierre to fill holes, or rushing Gordon Beckham ahead of time, then you're not really arguing for a team with sustainable success. You're rooting for garbage roster churn. Can't wait for the next Adam Dunn to lead us to the "promised" land.
