I mean, let's say he started switch hitting between 12-14. He started playing pro Cuban ball at 17, so that seems safe. That means he has not seen LHP in over a decade, never saw professional LHP and possibly never even saw a single breaking pitch from that side. As kids don't tend to begin throwing those until 12-13. Making him do that in the midst of a major league season after never doing it outside of youth leagues would be sheer insanity and setting a player up to fail in a huge way.

Presumably, Yoan Moncada has never in his baseball life seen a slider or a breaking ball as a left handed hitter from a LHP. Actually, he's never seen a ball come out of a LHP's hand from the left handed batters box. Certainly not at any level resembling professional. Seeing a slider come out of a LHP's hand from behind you, having that ball break at your back or hip before it slides violently into the zone? Never having seen that before and NOW you're going to see that mid-season in the Major Leagues? With ZERO time to prepare or practice for that? Yeah, good luck. lol. I'd literally rather bat a pitcher. Asking him to suddenly do that, is not far short of asking Jose Abreu to suddenly hit from the left side against RHP. A better comparison might be asking a right-handed boxer to fight left-handed the day of a prize fight. Maybe implementing a complex new offense for a QB to run in a football game as you're sitting in the locker room, waiting to take the field. This is something which would require the ENTIRETY of an off-season to even attempt.

I remember when Yoan first came up he was very vocal and adamant about his goal of wanting to play "all 162". I think Ricky even made a comment last year about giving Yoan a day off and he put up a slight protest. Then, earlier this season when we had a run where the team played every day for a couple of weeks he was asked about it. Quickly dismissing it as "I'm young, playing a bit sore is nothing". He really seems to pride himself on that. So, I think you may be onto something. I don't know if it's something that is common across the latin baseball community, though.

I predict a sweep. I don't see how we win tonight. Hope I am wrong.
-
Yeah, I expect a couple of later pinch hit appearances.
-
He has a -0.3 WAR and 105 OPS+. He's had a nice couple of weeks. A handful of big games where his talent really shined through. However, to suggest he's come up "raking" is rather disingenuous. As is using the fact that he's 3rd on a bottom 10 offense in HR's. Eloy's raw talent is super exciting and I cannot wait to see where he's at by season's end. However, if this is the finished product - we would all rightfully call him a bust. So, raking? Not even close.

This is late, clearly. However, it seems like a very legit motion to suppress. Police issued a fake bomb threat to install the cameras, a tactic Kraft’s lawyers have argued is reserved for extreme criminal cases including terrorism, bomb making, racketeering and other felonies, not misdemeanor prostitution. Investigators obtained the warrant to install the cameras while making the case that human trafficking was taking place at the spa. Prosecutors have since admitted that there is no case to pursue human trafficking charges.

It would mean that Charlie Tilson got hurt. At this point in his career, Jay is a 34 year old Charlie Tilson.

The Astros are another team that has their lineup entirely decimated and hasn't really skipped a beat. Whether it's a prospect like Alvarez coming up and raking... or just a nobody like Myles Straw. "Next man up" is a legitimate mantra for those teams. Speaking of which... I have an old buddy by the name of Mark Payton in AAA for the A's. He's 27, a left-handed hitting OF'er and spent all of his time in the minors previously with the Yankees since getting drafted out of Texas. He has a career .800 OPS in AAA over four seasons and never even sniffed a big league call-up. Hoping he breaks through with Oakland soon. He's raking at their AAA affiliate in Vegas. 9 HR's 41 RBI's .292/.366/.518 (.884) -

There should be more of an even keel. The drastic 180's that are done here on a daily and/or bi-daily basis are way too knee-jerk. We know what this is... when Omar Despaigne gets beaten around by the damn Yankees - it shouldn't rattle people's cages so much. Given the injuries that we have accumulated to our starting pitching (both at the minor and major league level) I'm at a loss for how we could do anything about the back-end of the rotation right now. The only reasonable thing we can do at this point in time is deal for a starter and I believe we will by the deadline. Not to mention that Despaigne did turn in a QS in his last start. There was no reason to yank him from the rotation after that. For whom? -

This is what this season is going to be. Ups and downs. You can't be on cloud nine every time Giolito pitches and then curse the organization every time Banuelos or Despaigne pitches. -
6:40 CT White Sox just announced this on their twitter.
-
Should be a late start and play all the way through. Everything I'm seeing. Kevin Roth on Twitter is a good follow. Covers all of the weather for games and gives updates as the storms develop.
-
Please don't go into a slide now. I'm having too much fun. Yanks having a bullpen day. If we can get a QS from Rey we should have a good shot.
-
I don't think wins matter much either as a statistic for pitchers either. Just that the fact Sale won 14 in one half of a season and 3 in another... that's pretty crazy.
-
Sale had 14 beginning July in 2016 just barely past the halfway point. He finished the season with only 17 wins. Now... that is wild as fuck.
-
A lot of hype surrounding tonight. Feels like the biggest stage for a White Sox starter in years. I don't like it... lol

Patrice... my man

White Sox ratings: up 40% on TV and streaming up over 100%

Can't afford a White Sox game? Unless it's the Cubs or Yanks... A homeless person could panhandle enough for a couple of tickets down the line in the outfield or in the bleachers. He could dig for change and find enough for the nosebleeds. -
ONE MORE I want this win

Yeah, same. I also love actors who do it too as they age and don't try to maintain everything with plastic surgery or hair implants. Val Kilmer, Jack Nicholson... etc... Obviously, hate to see Val with the cancer, though. But he's a great example of a good looking young dude who said "f**k it".
-
Yeah, and bald... and ugly. Which was a shock to my sister and my ex-girlfriend who both thought he was super dreamy in the mid-00's. lol. The tall, lean, handsome Crede with the flow is a FAR distant memory.
-
I try not to watch his AB's - as the predictability of it all is just way too frustrating. I can't wait until he's gone. At least Benetti has eased up on the whole "But his exit velocity says he's so unlucky!" shtick. Alonso pounding the ball on a line or into the ground directly into the shift is the equivalent of wide receiver consistently getting open only to drop the ball 80+% of the time. At a point, it becomes totally irrelevant... and we've blown FAR past that point.
-
Correct .500 ball over this span would be a win of giant proportions and very encouraging.

I could see 2-5 doing some damage vs Happ tonight. Issue is that Nova will undoubtedly be gotten to a bit. Let's hope we get on Happ early. Maybe Nova can do one turn through the lineup before they start drawing blood.
