At those number for pitching, beef up the lineup in RF and DH and pray for a miracle from Lopez, Kopech, Cease. The pitching market is just absurd at this point. -

$18 million for Cole Hamels, My God. And the players" union wants a work stoppage? -

Cole = Lebron Strasburg = Wade Wheeler = Bosh We will end up with Boozer again (Bumgarner). -

LH also. I think rotation balance (at least not having 5 straight RH pithcers) is very important in today's game. -

1) There is no such thing as disposable for the Sox. 2) Nova is not solid. Don't get fooled by his garbage time performance the 2nd half of the season. The guy doesn't miss bats and his WHIP is trash, especially when pitching in the AL. That's a bad recipe for a terrible defensive team. -

Why? It doesn't have to be some washed up AAAA scrub. Maybe it's time to push the up the clock on your better A, AA guys who are performing well at the time and you need a guy to fill in here for a couple weeks. Maybe you'll un-tap a capable ML pitcher in the process. The problem with veteran patches like Nova is that once you have them, this franchise doesn't cut them lose when they aren't cutting it. Sadly, it's their way of doing business. They will get all the use they can get from an old broom. -

I'm about to throw my laptop across the room if I continue to read about bringing Nova back. Enough with the roster clogging patch crap. Even if it's to complement a Wheeler signing. -

Chris Archer or Dallas Keuchel + Madrigal. The answer is easy. Not endorsing Dallas Keuchel, just using this an example. -

The problem is the Sox are very top heavy (and limited) on guys who might have any trade appeal for actual elite major league talent. Trading of Marte or Betts will cost you one if not two of Robert, Madrigal, Kopech, Vaughn, or Cease. I'm not willing to trade any of those guys. -

It would take a ton a to get that deal done, and quite frankly I don't think Archer is anything special. Pass. Trading assets vs spending FA money is the old antiquated mentality we need to finally get away from. -

Outside of all the dumb ass speculating, I do find it odd that there hasn't been a Yazmani Grandal intro press conference yet. Not many "record breaking" signings in this team's history to not have one. Maybe waiting for a second big fish to land. -
Berrios looked human against us this season, amazing what happens when we finally have some guys who can hit a baseball. Odorizzi is nothing special.
-
Heyman is about the laziest of the "Big Media" reporters out there. Master of the obvious and always late to the punch. He's the National Bruce Levine.
-
At what cost? Out all fan bases we should be well aware of the cost for good starting pitching (Sale and Quintana). Enough with the trades. Pay the money, operate like a legit ML franchise.
-
I'd love to kick the tires on a Joc Pederson trade again. If the price tag last year as rumored was Bummer (before his surprising breakout) + Bush, it should take less to get him this year in a walk year.
-
I'm starting to think the Sox feel that by defualt, one of Adolfo, Basabe, Rutherford, Gonzalez or Walker is going to end up breaking thru here very quickly. They'll be shopping for a one year stop gap for RF. I'm 100% fine with this as long as we land one of the those top 4 FA SPs.
-
I think this has Zero effect on Vaughn. He will be here sometime in 2021 at the earliest. Abreu to DH then.
-
Sadly, I think this is all about financial flexibility in 2020 with cutting his number down to $11 million to be able to add another big contract (pithcher). I thought we were beyond that point, of looking for financial flexibility this early in the process. I don't get it.
-
I was thinking Fisk 2nd, at least for my lifetime. But could go either way, The Albert Belle deal for me in getting arguably the the best offensive player in baseball at that moment, and taking him away from your rivals, sent huge shock-waves throughout baseball. It was the largest contract in baseball history at that moment. We are talking almost 25 years ago for $55 million, and this deal for Grandal is only $18 million more than that, Sox just haven't spent money on elite players, it's embarrassing. Let's see what they do with getting an elite pitcher to pair up with the elite position players this time around, unlike last time with settling for scrub ass Jaime Navarro.
-
Albert Belle, and it's not even close.
-
I'm fairly disappointed in the progression he has made, but no way in hell do you give up on that kind of an arm costing nickels this early. If he flops again this coming season, then yes you start considering it.
-
I'm not understanding this urgency to get 2 vs 1. Get the best one you can pay for and I'm fine with Giollito, FA, Cease, Lopez, and Kopech (with whatever fill in you want early in the year)
-
So thrilled the Sox jumped right on it and set the market, wish they could have done it with Brantley last year. The only concern I do have about Grandal is how in the world do 2 teams now lose him via free agency? And two solid contending teams who for the most part appear to know what they are doing?
