  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) But if everything went your way for the holiday then you would have nothing to complain about...and we all know how that would ruin your Christmas. Yeah, the fun is in the complaining, but not so much in the facts leading up to the complaining. If complaining was an Olympic sport, Michael Phelps would be eating my dust.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I really want to like The Hold Steady but I just cant. The lead singers voice sounds like the guy the makes songs for kid movies I dont know his name (he did some songs in Toy Story). Randy Newman? I can hear Randy Newman in the singer for the Hold Steady. So if Randy Newman did Springsteen songs, you'd get THS? HA! I like a few Hold Steady songs, but not a whole lot of them. They're okay, though.
  3. Driving too much, cutting every visit short to get to the next visit, and returning too soon because I work on Friday, most likely in an empty office. Sound like fun? Didn't think so. Oh, and I forgot - can't really drink at all because of all the driving. Wonderful.
  4. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 02:43 AM) I've had Waitress in the Sky in my head most of the day. Often, I've found that you guys can give some pretty good band recommendations. I listened to The Hold Steady because of LMB and DukeNukeEm always talking about them, I got some Motion City Soundtrack because Gage said they were pretty good, and I just started listening to the Replacements (literally only just -- I've listened to a couple albums once so far, but not Let It Be yet, that's next) because Kid said they were really good, and the same goes for the Pixies. In short: You guys give good music listening tips. Good job. Kid hates the Pixies, but others here (including me) enjoy them. I like the fact that the young'uns talk about the hip-hop, other whippersnappers enjoy the alternative groups, and the "wily veterans" wax nostalgic about the bands of yesteryear, all in the same forum.
  5. Their fireworks nights will be arms blowing out.
  6. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) We always joked about the killer scene we had...in Crystal Lake. Did you have CLHC tattooed on your hands? Cuz that would be RAD!
  7. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) LOL, I have never heard of that company, it looked like you pounded on your keyboard and posted, so i followed suit I thought the dumbass drunk thread spilled over here.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I normally never get into the All-Star game voting process, because it's pretty stupid, but it will be cool to see Kane and Toews on the opening line this year. They seem to have it pretty much locked down, but right now they are 2 and 3. Vote! This post is useless without links. http://fanballoting.nhl.com/
  9. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) Im wondering who is going to rise up to challenge Best Buy in the next year or so. Fry's? Radioshack? Nobody? It's going to be an uphill battle for anyone. Best Buy is so entrenched right now, they'd have to f*** up bigtime to lose their advantage.
  10. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) I walked into a "2 days left!" Circuit City on Saturday at Rand and Arlington Heights Road. It was pathetic in there, its real strange to see a store stripped down to nothing and selling everything that is seen I never had a pleasant shopping experience at a Circuit City. Bad layout, disinterested staff, insufficient stock of sale items. It's no wonder they got thoroughly thrashed by Best Buy.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) i meant that it's stupid, not hilarious. I know, but it still only half-qualifies, so no, it stays out of the thread.
  12. Sounds like Gaborik would cost a lot in players, cash and years. I don't think the Hawks would make that kind of investment, and given his injury history I don't blame them.
  13. All my favorite under-appreciated bands are dead: Marvelous 3 Dramarama Land of the El Caminos Woolworthy Muchacha Clowns For Progress All great, all largely ignored, all gone. (Technically, Muchacha's clinging to life, but they barely ever play anymore and they don't record new material)

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) should this go in the Stupid, Hilarious videos thread?????? As soon as it becomes hilarous, sure.

I saw Yes Man last night. Decent plot with some really funny moments. This is the kind of movie Jim Carrey should focus on doing. I laughed a lot, and it didn't lose steam like Liar Liar did. I'd give it a solid 3.75 out of 5.
  16. John Schuerholz doesn't like Furcal's agents' methods, apparently: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/arti...furcals_agents/ Strong words from JS.
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) ???????????? Why is an average 94mph fastball terrible? If you look at the good fastball pitchers in MLB, most are in the same ballpark. I think the problem is people thinking of Jenks as only a 'power pitcher'. I think it's time that people stopped calling Bobby a 'power pitcher' and just call him what he is... an excellent pitcher. Kyle Farnsworth is a power pitcher... who sucks. And there are lots of other good examples of guys who can fire the ball but can't pitch worth a damn. Bobby is dominant closer whose fastball averages about 94mph. And that ain't bad. Damn straight. You know what I like best about Bobby? He gets the 27th out WAY more often than he doesn't. I'm not going to doubt the only bullpen arm the Sox have who doesn't give me the s***s when they send him out there.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) I meant not used. Well, THAT's not as funny.
  19. I finally have a similar physique to a relatively young former heavyweight champ. Usually just the really old ex-athletes look like me.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I can sell you a brand new new used Zune for cheap. @ "brand new new used". and Buying a Zune isn't exactly the same as getting one for Christmas.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Its coming down in the city now at that fast pace too, and I saw a flash of lightning I think. Thundersnow starting. At least its snow, which is better than sleet/freezing rain/ice that is still a threat. Snow is less dangerous. Going to be an interesting Friday AM commute for some. Luckily I'm off this week and sitting at home. I'm getting the icy rain now. I hope my car door opens. I'll be heading out in about 20 minutes. I had yesterday off, but I have to work today. Obviously my vacation day timing was bad. My wife and I did get the bulk of the Christmas shopping done, though - doubt I would have wanted to head out to the stores today.
  22. I've been having a hard time answering when asked what I want. I haven't really seen much out there that I really want, all I really want are bigger-ticket items (flat screen TV, s*** like that) and that's not coming for Christmas. I'm expecting to get gift cards, which is fine by me.
  23. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Oh, same here...i'm not saying due as in he needed the title. But in the sense that he's been there so many times that it may start to hurt his stock if he didn't get some big wins soon. I still think he holds it no longer than Wrestlemania. OK, I agree with that theory, but I disagree about him holding the belt through WrestleMania. He may be the champ again come WM, but I have a feeling H might pad his stats with another reign in between Hardy runs. When (not if) H surpasses Flair's total, it will be the cheapest 17 reigns imaginable.
  24. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) True, but he was due. You can only put him in a main event so many times without finally bringing it home. I don't know, he still screams "tag champ or IC title" to me. I bought CM Punk as World champ more than I do Hardy.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Well there are millions of idiot sports fans (Cub fans) out there, especially here in the Chicago area, so if your team gets good, stuipd ass elements like that will show up. If the Bulls ever get good the same s*** will be there to deal with, although it's going to obviously be worse in the Hawks case with McDonough running the show so to speak. I just say ignore it and enjoy watching the team play, you can't control that there are a lot of people out there who make the CRITICAL mistake of being Cubs fans a life choice and then try and carry it around to other things. HEY!!! What the hell's THAT supposed to mean????
