  1. Happy Birthday to the single coolest member of the Soxtalk community!!! THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT! Here's to ya, ya punk-ass bastard!!!
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ May 18, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) Scotty 2 Hotty, Spirit Squad Mikey, and ARIEL all released. I liked Ariel. The Scotty 2 Hotty release is about 4 years too late.
  3. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 18, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) 3 and a half songs through Boxer by the National and am already blown away. Have never heard this band's music before. But this album is really, really good so far. Some insight into just how old I am: The first thing that popped into my mind when I read "the National" was this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_National_(newspaper) Anyone else remember this? The all-sports newspaper?
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) Wow. You guys are totally freaking out. This thread has been hilarious since the Cubs took the lead.
  5. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 18, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) Quack. Edit: Now both teams have won a game in which they were outplayed. Even Steven. AFLAC!!! I'm still confident with a best-of-3 with home ice, but it's getting a little shaky for me again.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ May 17, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) Rob Van Dam has been given an early release. He is expected to take the summer off and probably be in TNA by fall. In related news, Dixie Carter has approved unlimited overtime for all her writers this summer, in an attempt to find a way to make Rob Van Dam interesting.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 16, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I didn't watch the game last night, but I think I can safely say the reason Anahiem lost is because they didn't shoot enough. Just checked the box score, because I was curious about that, too. Ducks outshot Wings 29-28. But they only got 2 shots on goal in the 2nd.
  8. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 15, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Good Christ it's 4-0 Wings not even halfway through the 2nd. The defensive coverage has been atrocius. Wings take back home-ice advantage. I have to say, I'm a little surprised at how well the D is playing without Schneider thus far. They finally got some road offense from Holmstrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk. They had 2 road points between the three of them coming into this game, and got 6 points from them total last night.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ May 15, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) Didn't ECW travel to Japan to do joint shows with FMW a few times? I'm sure they did, but the point I was trying (and failing, apparently ) to make is that they called it a world title from the moment they flattened and painted the coffee cans they made it out of.
  10. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 15, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) God, JB is such a terrible color man. And how can the TNA belt be a world title if it hasn't been defended outside of the US (or f***ing Orlando for that matter)? Well, to be as fair as possible, the old (read: REAL) ECW called their belt the World title when it was defended exclusively in the Philly bingo hall (actually, from the moment Shane "Have I Ever Mentioned That I Hate Ric Flair?" Douglas threw down the NWA belt), so anything can be called a world title in wrestling.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 15, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) My least favorite person in the universe has to be Ron Santo....I can't believe he was b****ing about the pink bats on Sunday taking away from the spirit of the game. He WAS???? Damn, what an asshole. If the pink bats were for diabetes research, he'd talk about them for a month beforehand and a month after. I guess some diseases are worse than others.... Always the self-centered jag.
  12. Here's the first look at the new TNA World Title belt: http://www.tnawrestling.com/news/fullnews2.php?all=1246 Eh. Could have been worse, could have been a lot better. It kind of reminds me of one of the old AWA title belts - not the super-size one Nick Bockwinkel wore, but the one Verne Gagne wore before that one, and they revived when Curt Hennig was champ. Kind of non-descript.
  13. Goofy-ass Dusty Finish last night in the NWA title match, but I understand why. I read on nwawrestling.com that TNA has to establish their own title because they're giving up their affiliation with the NWA. Here's the statement: NWA™ Executive Director, Robert K. Trokich announces that the storied National Wrestling Alliance® has ended its 5 year relationship with TNA Entertainment, LLC. Trobich also stripped Christain Cage and Team 3-D of the NWA™ branded Championships. A title tourny is being planned to establish a new NWA™ Worlds Heavyweight Champion. I hope TNA makes their belt look distinctive and doesn't just make another giant gold glob.
  14. "Good for him. Joe Hardy deserves to be happy, especially for all he has helped Fayette County," bar owner Tanya King said. "Age means nothing. Everyone has a heart." But on the next bar stool, her husband, Andy, groans about the third marriage of Mr. Hardy, founder of 84 Lumber who developed Nemacolin Woodlands and Resort. "It's a big joke. You have money and you can afford to buy people." Sounds like Andy King wishes HE could buy some hot ass....
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 14, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Phew, really needed game 2. Series tied at 1 heading to Anaheim. Hate to say it, but for now at least: Advantage - Quacks.
  16. Lawsuits coming in 5..........4...........3.............2.....................
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 14, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I agree, The Henry Rollins band blew, but Black Flag was the s***. Nowadays I like to hear him talk about the state of music in general, he's still very much in touch with what's going on and he sees through all the B.S. I also enjoy his show on the IFC. Henry Rollins = Ice-T. Both like to play off their "cred" (whether street or punk), but at the same time each will whore themselves out with no problem. I was never into Black Flag, and I only like "Liar" by Rollins Band. I'm sure I'd like Rollins' books, but I heard "Get In The Van" on audio and I wasn't crazy about it. It sounded like Rollins was reading someone else's book, rather than talking about his experiences. A very monotonous and listless reading. I do like Rollins' IFC show, though.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 14, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Hmm, it seems Mr. Thome is a little bit behind on the rehab schedule they tried to set last week. Starts a rehab assignment today, will miss the Cubs series. Not a huge deal, since the DH is not available in an NL park. A lefty bat off the bench would be nice, but not if it meant rushing Jim back. If all goes well he should be back for Oakland at USCF next Monday.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 13, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROTATION ORDER THE CUBS WILL BE THROWING LILLY, MARQUIS AND ZAMBRANO IN THAT ORDER Yeah, but Marquis, still reeling from the pummeling the Sox dealt him last year with the Cardinals, has decided to throw the ball with his left hand this time.
  20. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 12, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) If I was a kid, I'd be thrilled to go to the ballgame with my dog, and a bunch of other dogs. I can tell you obviously never had a dog, because if you did, he'd be practically a best friend to you. That saying isn't a lie. And who cares about fireworks. The load bangs and the smoke probably scare the kids more then anything. I can only speak for myself, but I've been bringing my daughter to the park since she was 3 and she's always loved the fireworks. And while I personally would never have taken my dog to a ballgame (just not my thing), a lot of people seem to love it. I just find out when the promotions I dislike are happening (dog day, rat pack night, elvis night, and mullet night come to mind) and avoid those games. The way I see it, that's at least 3 more tickets available for those who want to attend those promotions, and I don't have to deal with something I don't like. Win/Win.
  21. I know I'm always looking at the glass as half-cracked, but I really hope the pitching will hold up once the hitting finally comes around. It's a good sign that the Sox have managed to go 3 games over .500 with virtually no offense, but that can't last, can it?
  22. Joe Corvo scores in double-overtime to put the Sens up 2-0 in the series as it heads to Ottawa. This is a pretty big hole for the Sabres.
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 12, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Saw Dinosaur a couple of nights ago and the ringing in my head is finally starting to go away. Kinda dissapointed, the new material sounds like crap, clearly they have not rehearsed it. The crowd knew it and the band knew it. The old stuff rocked a usual. Mascis is God. That's disappointing. How the hell do you hit the road without getting your new material hashed out?
  24. Rob Conway and Too Cold Scorpio were released by WWE in the past couple of days. I didn't realize either of them were even on the payroll anymore.
  25. That's good news. I'd expect a Kennedy/Edge feud when he comes back, and that could be very entertaining. In other news, I read this about the Smackdown tapings: NOTES: The end of the Undertaker-Batista match will need some editing. Batista was late climbing out of the cage... leaving the Undertaker waiting, which when you are hanging from the outside of a cage, it seemed like forever. Then the worst ever exposing of a match then occured as Taker shouted "1-2-3 jump" to Batista. Pretty sure everyone saw it and heard it. Batista really, really sucks.
