  1. I'll readily admit I was worried - I never gave up hope, and I never jumped off the ship, but especially during that 4-10 stretch in September I had some BAD feelings about it. As it turns out, the Cleveland uprising was probably the best thing that could have happened to this team. Having some seriously important games in late September seems to have renewed their focus and intensity, and it's paying off now!
  2. QUOTE(J-MAN @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) What the heck could be more important than a SOX WORLD SERIES GAME????? Marital bliss, and related previous arrangements. Scroll back a couple pages for the full Critic-bashing! and thanks for the ( sort of ) kind words, Kid - I love my wife more than anything, and I wouldn't think of asking her to break our plans, even though she probably would if I did ask.
  3. Went to JC and picked up my AL Champions t-shirt. They said they'll have the hats this afternoon. I told myself I was going to wait for the NEXT shirt, but I couldn't resist.
  4. Roger Clemens pitched right after his Mom died. Some guys can handle that type of thing better than others. Alex seems to be a pretty sensitive guy, so maybe he really was devastated.
  5. Whats so unbelieveable about this? A sports team wins a title: ISU people riot, burn down the 'campus and steal school supplies. Some guy gets kicked out of an off-campus bar: ISU people riot, burn down the 'campus and steal school supplies. Student Council leader who preached non-rioting to his people gets laughed at: ISU People riot,burn down the 'campus and steal school supplies. Notice a pattern here? Maybe if certain segments of the ISU community had a shred of civility or a small sense of community, groups like the PTA wouldn't have any credibility at all.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:23 AM) Powerball is $340 million *HINT-HINT* That'll just about cover 4 tickets for Game One from a scalper....
  7. http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay17.html Grudging respect, back-handed compliments, a smidge of bandwagoning.... ...in other words, the usual when the Sox are winning...
  8. QUOTE(Funkman7 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) OKay just so I can google this can someone give me the name of the bank or the address of somewhere I can park? Not sure what the bank is, but it's on West 63rd Street, between Cicero Ave. and Central Ave. The street is Laramie, and if you go there soon there will still be parking available there. If you wait a while you'll have to find street parking nearby. Not impossible, but not all that easy either. And trust me, you CAN'T miss the crowd already!
  9. Just passed by Midway on my way home, and there were a couple hundred people out there already at 3 AM. NICE!!!!!
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) Dammit! No 3xl! /quiet you. Have a salad, dude....it's called "portion control".... ....I go with 2X, but I can fit into an XL, so take that, fatty.....
  11. QUOTE(Funkman7 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) I just heard on espn radio that they're scheduled to arrive at 5:30. Has anyone ever done this before? Anyone know where to park or go? I'm totally thinking about doing this. There's a bank across from where the Sox leave the airport, on 63rd & Laramie. People parked there last time, and I assume that's the meeting point now.
  12. My Dad ( damn, I miss that dude ) was a diehard Cub fan. He used to call Comiskey Park "The Boneyard". It would have been fun to debate this season with him. Here's to ya, Dad!!!! I know you're happy for me!!!
  13. It's so sad that some segments of the Soxtalk community don't respect their community and can't behave with civility. The Sox go to the series, and some people have to riot.....
  14. eh. f*** her and her 3rd place team. eat it, Twinkie b****.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Whipped! Trust me, that is NOT the first time I have seen or heard THAT associated with me.... My response is always the same: "I don't have to live every day of the rest of my life with YOU....."
  16. Wanna hear something worse? If the Series goes 7 games......that's the night of the Double Door Halloween concert, which the Mrs. and I attend every year..... I THINK the wife would be okay with missing that, or showing up reeeeeeeeeeally late to it.....
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) You know what...right now...i really, REALLY don't care at all about this thread. I'm amazed I'm even wasting time posting in it. WE'RE IN THE f***ING WORLD SERIES, I'M HALF DRUNK, WHY THE f*** SHOULD I CARE ABOUT SOME STUPID COLUMNIST WHO MAKES MORE MONEY THAN ME AND OWNS LESS WHITE SOX MERCH THAN ME? Ahhhhh, go sleep it off, ya drunk....or rather, ya HALF-drunk....
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) I'm ashamed to share a message board with you. I can live with your shame....
  19. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Birth of a child? Death in the family? I can't think of much else. Going out with the Mrs. Somewhere she really wants to go, reservations made long ago, paid for and unrefundable. My happy home is important to me , and since it's Game One nothing will be decided anyway, so I'm okay with avoiding updates and watching a tape of the game when we get home.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) TELL ME ABOUT IT. I am piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiss d. But there's seriously nothing I can do about it.
  21. Vladimir Guerrero was 1-for-20 in the series. That MIGHT have more to do with the Angels' woes than a couple of blown calls. Scioscia is a class act. I felt bad for him......for a minimicronanosecond....heh.....
  22. Yeah, all you 2,500 Sox fans, enjoy this. That's all the Sox fans we have in this city, right? Isn't that what "media experts" always say??
  23. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) You and me both, Bro. For me, though, worst case scenario is I get skunked on tix and just watch the games with friends and family at the corner bar. I wouldn't miss getting in on the city vibe right now for the world. Seriously, Jim, If you're coming to town and miss out on tickets, PLEASE let me know what bar you'll be at. I'd really like to meet you and knock back a couple cold ones watching a World Series game!!! It would have to be Sunday, though - I actually have a previous engagement that I can't avoid on Saturday - WOULDN'T YOU f***ING KNOW IT???????
  24. It was announced right after the game - he recieved the trophy right after JR got the AL trophy. Kudos to Paulie, but I'm afraid that all of this is raising his price tag! Good thing his degenerative hip hasn't caused him to retire yet......
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) He's a crazy mo-fo, but you can't argue with the results right now. He's not crazy, he's CRAFTY. His role in molding a team that the "experts" picked to finish 3rd or 4th into the BEST team in the A.L., both regular season and postseason, cannot be understated. He holds the guys accountable for their performance, but shows more loyalty to them and confidence in them than the fans would. He has a LONG leash, but demands results. AND he's one of them, and they KNOW IT. He's in the bunker with them, and takes the shots with them or FOR them, and that breeds respect!
