I'm watching the start of the Wolves/San Antonio game and I'm hearing a VERY familiar song before the puck drops..... Yep, they're playing Thunderstruck by AC/DC! I wonder how many teams had played this in the past, and how many play it now? Great song, though.

My heart says great, my mind says bad ( long layoff, bad season vs. Anaheim, postseason debut ), so I split the difference and voted "good". There's some rationalizing for ya, huh......

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) I'm gonna sell your posts to an adversary. I'm sure you've said something wrong in the past on here Better sell them wholesale, nobody can afford a semi full of pointless posts....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) If Critic makes a post on Soxtalk, and no one cares, does he really make a post? Oh, look at the King Of Padding The Stats talking!!!

I've seen this guy on some TV shows and he doesn't merit my attention. I'm just really surprised that so few media people can go beyond the lazy commentary and see that the Sox still had to steal a base and get a hit off of Escobar to win that game. To these dopes it's as if AJ rounded the bases while the Angels were grabbing batting helmets.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) You're talking to a guy who can listen to Marilyn Manson one minute and the Beatles the next....and this style is not in my repetoire either, but I love the Sox stuff....so its on my list. So get on the bandwagon. There is no room for individualism in this thread. So if Ashlee Simpson recorded "So Like Totally White Sox Awesome And Stuff" you'd be at the record store PRONTO???? Sorry, maaaaaaan, my musical integrity is EVERYTHING to me, duuuuude. It's like, WHO I AM and whatever........

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) We just don't want you to be a communist. I just don't like that style of music. It's all pork-pie hats and canes and striped suits to me. Have The Methadones or Rise Against or Alkaline Trio record Go-Go White Sox and we'll talk.

At this time, I'd like to thank you all for the kind, heartwarming responses to my opinion of this song. And once again, MANY THANKS for making Soxtalk a place where we, as Sox fans, can discuss, debate, express our opinions and beliefs, and most importantly, AGREE TO DISAGREE on so many diverse and wide-ranging topics. It's this kind of warm friendly, FAMILY atmosphere that makes soxtalk.com my "go-to site" for all things White Sox AND BEYOND....... ....and in closing, I'd like to add...... :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger

Riddle me this Trent Yawney
The Critic replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I thought that was an odd statement. I think I get what he was trying to say, that they played better as a team, made fewer mistakes or whatever, but to say a 3-goal loss was your best game of the season so far just sounds weird. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) Yep. The old "Blind Pig," theme and variations. To get around various liquor sales laws, proprietors would charge a cover charge to see some 'amazing' sight in the tavern, like a blind pig or something equally stupid. Then they'd just happen to serve 'free' booze to the folks who seem unusually interested in seeing some crap in the back room. Very creative. There may not be blind pigs around here, but if the Sox advance one more round, you may be able to see one fly....

Even with its magic powers, I just don't like the song.

From that sequence, it does appear that the ball is higher in the glove than just before the catch. I dunno, it was so close. The only thing I don't like is how some people are making it sound like that play alone cost the Angels the game. That is simply not true, and never will be true.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Ach, I have a love/hate relationship with Metro anyway. I saw some good shows there, but also some clams - mostly to appease the Metro junkie girlfriend who was the high school love of my life. Could have been worse, I guess. She could have been a Cubs fan. I hear ya, man, I married one of those.... Good thing she has so many great qualities, the Cub thing can get overlooked.... and I do love the Metro - even a bad show is kinda OK there.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) Point Taken. I guess the cbgb mystique would not be so huge either if you replaced The Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, and Talking Heads with the Starland Vocal Band and Shaun Cassidy either. ...see, now that's just silly.... The only point I was trying to make is that REM HAPPENED to be the first show, not so much that Shanahan had some crystal ball that made him CHOOSE them to be the first show. It could just as easily been someone like Flesh For Lulu or the Dickies or a local band at the time. I wasn't talking about replacing the club's entire history of bands and replacing them with Shaun Cassidy, ya knucklehead!!! That said, my first show at The Critic Lounge would be Pearl Jam, Megadeth, Green Day, Prince, and the Smashing Pumpkins reunion show......just so I could have a KILLER first show ever for people to talk about later!

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) And maybe you could talk R.E.M. into being the the first act booked in your club like he did. . . Only if I could get that roadie or whatever to move his anniversary party to my club. and to be factual they weren't the R.E.M. they would go on to become. They were on the rise, but still basically not THAT well known. The first band booked could just as easily been someone similar at the time like Charlie Sexton or Flesh For Lulu, and then it wouldn't be as impressive.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 06:28 AM) I was thinking "pez dispenser" myself as opposed to "brood mare". Carlos Mencia's line about his mom being a "uterus with a head" came to mind for me. nice Simpsons reference by Balta too, by the way! I have some "billies" living near me and I always use that line when I see them outside, playing paintball on the tarp covering the rowboat against the garage near the burnt-out car and the pile of assorted indistinguishable metal objects in their back yard. ....and somehow property values DO continue to rise in my area.....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:14 AM) There were a couple for me. I got offered a bunch of positions in broadcasting out of college, and I always wondered how those would have turned out. I didn't follow that route because it would have been minimum wage and way too many years of grief for me at that time. I also got a call for an interview to an entry level position with the White Sox two weeks after I started working on the trading floor, and couldn't take anytime off yet to go to an interview. Wow, you're not a real Sox fan after all, are you???? I always figured if I won the Lotto ( which would be a REAL longshot for me, since I never play it ) I would open up a nightclub to feature metal and punk shows. Give that sonuvab**** Joe Shanahan a run for his money... I figured that the "pay-to-play" money alone would help the club stay above water financially....

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) it bothers me that 1000 doesn't have a whiner line. Go Nomar! by the way... AM1000 used to have a whiner line, but I think they ditched it when they found out that the "average Chicago sports fan" who would be likely to leave a message is less interesting than, not as funny as and more bigoted than Mike North.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) I wonder what bugs them worse, the White Sox, the Astros, or the Cardinals in it... OR ALL 3!!! I know the trolls here are REALLY dreading a possible Sox/Cards World Series. Cheering HARD for the Angels, cuz they lose either way in the NLCS. -

Generalizations suck....ALL OF 'EM. There are just as many obsessive Sox-haters as their are Cubsessed Sox fans. To try to spin it otherwise is flat-out wrong. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) I reject the argument that a true long term Sox fan would only be wearing a ragged, sweated out, cap from 1980. I have half a dozen caps from pristine to the EPA better not find out about it. I am the same fan while wearing my current rally cap, the 1919 road grey, to my five year old, smell it before you see it, official game cap. Let's not judge Sox fans by how s***ty the cap is. You see I have a dream . . . I have a dream that my two little children will one day live in a city where they will not be judged by the condition of their Sox cap, but by the content of their character. Here's a molehill..... ....Tex sees a mountain..... I hope to someday live in a country where a slap at a Johnny(Cusack)-Come-Lately will not be extrapolated into a debate about buying a Sox hat.
