  1. Manny Machado didn't hear from the Padres at all until the middle/end of December.
  2. Which is nonsense though; last off-season, to use it as an example, there were guys who signed with teams that didn't reach out to them at all until December or January. Typically you're going to focus on certain guys early - as the Sox did with Grandal - and as the off-season evolves you may shift your focus or desires and reach out to new players. Especially in this current environment where all teams are being hesitant to do anything with Corona, this off-season will likely take even longer to develop and play out.
  3. I already cancelled my season tickets with the hiring so I'm all out of leverage.
  4. Which is fine, and he absolutely called the La Russa hiring, but the thing he is now claiming literally goes against business 101, and baseball agenting 101. There's just no chance Marcus Stroman knows the Sox have zero interest in him this early in an off-season.
  5. I get that, and I don't doubt for one second that the Sox had less interest in a pitcher like Stroman but the fact is there's no way they would have told Stroman that already, and if they did they are complete morons who eliminate leverage with other FA's by stating that one isn't even on their radar. So portraying this as Stroman lashing out because the Sox told him they weren't interested just seems wrong.
  6. Harold, what does this even mean? Even if the Sox had not expressed interest yet - at all - there's no way Stroman would know that for a fact. It's not as if his agent called him and told him to go scorched earth because the Sox called and said they had no interest in a 5'9 SP in his thirties. it's very possible the Sox have zero interest in Stroman, but the odds that Stroman would know that and act out in this way because of that is near zero. Fact is, you've been loving this hire since it was made so you aren't exactly an unbias source of information regarding the negative impacts of this hiring.
  7. 100% by design. Let the people who are likable speak for and represent the organization and hope the backlash just goes away with time.
  8. I've never in my life of following baseball seen a big money free agent be legitimately hostile towards a potential FA landing spot due to their manager or other aspects of the organization. This is truly amazing.
  9. He's a big time dog; Cash pretty much a lock based on the number but it would be hilarious no doubt.
  10. Buck's a me first douche bag who treats players like high schoolers. I feel pretty similarly about both guys; both fans of the unwritten rules nonsense, both hate fun. I guess Adam Jones hated Tony a lot more than Buck though so that tells a bit of a story.
  11. Definitely a bad look, but if people would play for Buck Showalter I don't see why they wouldn't play for Tony. Maybe Buck isn't a closeted racist.
  12. Didn't Stroman retract his comments last time he did this? I imagine his agent is going to be picking up the phone shortly; or maybe the Sox have expressed no interest in the first place so he knows there's nothing to lose.
  13. Maybe, and if the Sox are interested and offer him the most money and he declines I'll be the first to say I was wrong. IMO though, I just don't think it happens. There are a lot of POS's in MLB clubhouses throughout the game. End of the day, you sign with a team for money, and you enjoy playing because you're around the guys. Odds that Tony spends much time in the clubhouse and not inside his office are likely pretty slim. If you can win a World Series, play with some guys you enjoy or think are fun to be around, and make big money doing it I think you'll look past the temporary Maniquin in the managers office.
  14. It's his first in the state though; they don't have jurisdiction to use his other charge against him in their proceedings I don't believe.
  15. 1. No Free Agent is avoiding the Sox because TLR got a DUI 2. I said this before, but the majority of white people in baseball are Republicans; this may bother some, but it's simply a fact. Many would likely have attended the rally with Tony if asked.
  16. I think this is a real possibility but in the back of my mind I keep thinking.... we're talking about TLR right now. He loves all attention; always has. Guy might be enjoying this.
  17. Hopefully just a way for Tony to save as he steps away "willingly" to focus on himself and his health. Some would say family but no one believes that with Tony.
  18. Looks like the one report was "someone called the police" and the other was he was on the side of the road. Cant find the tweet about him calling so likely made up.
  19. Isn't the report that he called the police after hitting the curb, basically telling on himself. Hilarious; then he became belligerent, likely asking the cops if they knew who he was as he did last time. When this tape releases it will be even more embarrassing.
  20. Yeah, it's just nonsense. People love to sit on these absurd moralistic towers where they would act altruistic at all times, but what the heck do I have to do with some dumb ass my boss hired acting a fool? That's not my problem, that's my bosses problem.
  21. Blood on their hands? Because Tony is only capable of driving drunk due to his employer? Give it a rest. He has no business being hired for this job, and it's a position with plenty of qualified candidates that don't come with baggage so heavy you gotta pay extra, but Tony La Russa is a grown man and him being a POS doesn't mean Rick Hahn would have blood on his hands for decisions Tony La Russa made. Jaysus.
  22. I'm 99% sure that corporate offices throughout America are riddled with people convicted of DUI. You're going to have a hard time finding a job if things like that become required.
  23. Ricky after Jerry made him hire Tony: Rick after "someone" leaked the story to ESPN and Passan:
  24. I think this works out for the Sox; I think La Russa inevitably steps down because he doesn't want to deal with this shit that he caused.
