Why does the pen need to be saved?
You don't mind not talking to your player and asking him how he feels before sending him out for another inning at 95 pitches? The bullpen will be used much more if giolito gets hurt.
The time to see if he can "battle" through fatigue is absolutely not an April game vs the worst team in baseball.
Offense is the worst it's ever been in the history of the game and in your mind people who manage pitchers and pitchers themselves don't know what they're doing and are sad.
That's negligent, all jokes aside. 115 pitches vs the Tigers in April. Guy should have came out before the inning feeling good about himself and healthy/strong. It's one of the more puzzling managerial decisions I've ever seen.
