  1. Am I watching a different game than some others? Vaughn has been fine defensively, and if he qualified he'd rank 5th in wRC+ among all LF'ers in MLB (I'm not including people like Kris Bryant whose primary position is not LF). Adam Engel absolutely should not play over Andrew Vaughn when he's healthy. Now, Engel playing against lefties for Eaton and giving Vaughn an occasional blow is fine, but he shouldn't be playing everyday over Andrew Vaughn.
  2. I didn't see the lineup yet, but I certainly can't follow the logic that we won't put our absolute best players in the lineup vs the best pitcher in the AL to maximize our chance of scoring. Vaughn doesn't need to be protected, he's not a child. He's a flat out professional hitter who rakes.
  3. No, Vaughn shouldn't be sitting to play Leury Garcia who can't hit left handed and can't hit Bieber. Vaughn will need to face tough righties in his career, and I don't think he is having "confidence" problems given that he skipped two minor league levels and has been absolutely raking in the big leagues. You need your BEST PLAYERS to play even more against the best pitcher in the league, not less. Edit: Bieber is arguably better vs lefties than righties too, so the entire argument makes no sense.
  4. Lol you wrote a 3 paragraph analysis of how you were right and everyone who disagreed with you and mastermind LaRussa was wrong, I responded with one sentence about your unwillingness to admit you were wrong about Vaughn not being ready (which was your initial argument regarding this entire ordeal), and somehow my post was the arrogant one. ? Again, this place is hilarious sometimes.
  5. So Vaughn is succeeding because his manager sits him on the bench for bad players? Consistent playing time, from my history and understanding, are the best ways to maintain offensive consistency. Playing less often makes hitting more difficult. What did I state as a fact? If you want to applaud Tony LaRussa for benching Andrew Vaughn so he could play a guy who is not in the big leagues any longer, by all means go right ahead and applaud that decision making.
  6. Love this move; wishing him the best. Hope that swing takes and he really takes off early.
  7. You complained endlessly about the Sox moving Moncada from 2nd to 3rd base, said the process was broken, said they were a fool to move Moncada to third, even moreso to open up a spot for "bum Madrigal" and that the Sox have no idea how to internally evaluate their own players so the move would blow up in their face. Not going to bump those, but where I give you big time credit is you maintained that Moncada would hit and rake regardless of his struggles and that he would have up and downs but he'd be a stud (this was back when he was abysmal) in the long run and there was never anything to worry about.
  8. This is amazing. Larussa mismanages the guy, doesn't give him consistent Ab's, plays nick Williams over him and despite that some people want to give him credit for Vaughns success and not the fact that Vaughn has hit and would hit if he was just given a chance too. This place is too damn funny sometimes. Imaging giving a young player with a polished bat who was born in rake towns success to a geezer who refused to play him over a guy who isn't even on the team anymore.
  9. If Gen z supposedly have no critical thinking skills, then you boomers are incapable of just admitting you were wrong lol. The handling of Vaughn has been atrocious. It's OK to just admit that and move on.
  10. By far the most impressive and encouraging part of his outing.
  11. Jack just moved giolito out of the rotation all together after that Cease performance tonight. Tough break for Lucas.
  12. Move over Harold, we got a new scouting bigwig in tow.
  13. I told you @wegnerjose was cheating on his fastball and can't hit off speed now because of it! ?
  14. Lol none taken. I bust balls and give people are hard time often offline too. People do it to me offline all the time too. Just the personality of those around me. I do also like poking the bear offline and on because it cracks me up. I get that gets people wound. I also typically don't care when it's done to me 99.9% of the time. We all have bad days and can get riled up, I'm not immune. What no one can say is that I take personal shots at people. I think sometimes people would prefer i did over getting palled to death which is probably why I love the word so much ?
  15. Usually you'd say you don't want to start a game and stop it ruining the starting pitcher, but with Cease LaRussa would probably pull him before any rain anyway
  16. @Jack ParkmanI got to say that you were one of the only people who didn't give up on Giolito and repeatedly said the ace was still in there. The guy proves you right over an extended period of time and becomes a top tier pitcher, and then after two not great starts you have jumped off the wagon and put him fourth in the rotation. It's one of my favorite things about you and also one of the funniest. It ranks up there with Fathom having a database of negative stats on every player in all types of situations.
  17. I've been told constantly that those posters should be left alone and they're just "venting." Let them vent, and if you don't you're a bad person and a bad fan. Poke fun at their hyperbole and you're an asshole who doesn't let people be a fan how they want. That's the irony of this entire thread. People who are having fun, being sarcastic and poking fun at crazy over the top comments - like you would with friends or at an actual bar - are called condescending assholes who are telling other people how to be a fan... trying to figure out what direction this place actually wants to go, because having a good time at people's hyperbole is resented by many posters and moderators here. Heck, it happened in this very thread which admittedly may have been a bit off topic for it lol
  18. When you cant set records famous to the sport, when 27 outs has always been sacred, changing that is just absurd to me. Im worried they'll never go away either, even after covid. Athletes in better shape than ever, more pitchers on a roster than ever, yet somehow players can't play 18 innings anymore for health and safety reasons Game was designed to go through a lineup three times
  19. Guy won the MVP and youre saying you were right calling his demise when you said it was happening last year lol
  20. Now that we've felt them more ive got to say I absolutely hate the 7 inning games. Doesn't feel like a real baseball game. Most exciting part of the games are the last few innings. Game has no feel to it imo. Great outing by Carlos though. Good win.
  21. 24 year old Nick Madrigal can't play two games but 30 year old Leury Garcia can. Can't wait for Leury in game two and 23 year old Andrew Vaughn on the bench for rest. Yay! I'm sure Tony is trying his best and really cares and is well intentioned and I respect his right to disagree with my opinion.
  22. Yes, and I can't emphasize enough the guy is playing HURT this year. Probably moreso than any of us even realize. He's a catcher with a knee problem. That's not good. It's no surprise he's rolling over everything. He's left handed and his front leg is injured. He's also been the victim of some bad luck which happens. Grandal didn't tell giolito to throw face high change ups over and over vs Boston. The soxtalk narrative I am most exhausted of is that a catcher makes a pitcher throw a certain pitch. Pitchers are responsible for what they throw. No one else is. Mccann xwOBA is 285! Grandals xwOBA is 365! One has had incredibly bad batted ball luck, the other has been bad and his batted ball luck has been as expected.
  23. It's hard to take people seriously when they call grandal avg or below avg last year when he was arguably the best catcher in baseball. The knee is clearly effecting him this year. He had to change how he sits behind home plate for goodness sakes. This is why players shouldn't play hurt. Fans rip them for not playing hurt then rip them for not being great when they play hurt.
