i love the way Luis plays the game. I really hope he breaks the narrative and the norm; that's what I love about baseball.... just when someone says you can't do something this way, someone comes around and says "hold my beer."

I appreciate both your contributions to EE and Mazara's 4 +RBI 1 HR night combined.

Who is the other one?

fair enough. him and Engel have a home on this roster imo. The offense doesn't need any help.

He played 140 games last year and was a 1 fWAR player; which again, by definition is not a replacement level player.

He's on a big league roster that is in first place. He's a big leaguer despite your decision and opinion that he's not.

he was bad because he was asked to do something he shouldn't be asked to do; start. just as an FYI, Gordon Beckham is in his 10th year in the league. He can't hit. He is a utility guy who is solid everywhere and is only kind of bad as a hitter. Yolmer is an elite defender. He has accumulated 4.6 WAR in 2438 AB's. It is not good, but it is 100% a MLB player

he won a gold glove and is a utility player but he's not a big leaguer. this is an absurd take. he was considered the best defensive 2nd baseman in baseball and it wasn't because of his bat carrying his legacy.

that is 100% on purpose.

Yolmer a great guy who brought a great attitude to work every single day when shit was awful. He was also an elite defender; that player has a home on this roster, and is a great addition and mix. The Sox don't need to worry about maximizing every single run in the 9th spot every night.

bat path >>> barrel speed Yolmer still sucks at hitting. confirmed. I think the Sox know that EE's numbers aren't good; the reaction time is dead and he's inbetween on everything. Late on fastballs, but too quick on off-speed because he's cheating to get to the fastball, which is why we are hearing about Vaughn and his great results. The Sox are ready to move on but will respect the veteran a bit longer I imagine.

He was a slightly below average fielder in RF which isn't an extremely weak defensive position. Mazara was fine in the field. He needs to start hitting the ball in the air. Jeeze.

too small of a sample, but who knows honestly. if your identify/react time changes by .05 seconds you're done in baseball. Your strength, conditioning and bat speed can only save so much. if you dont get your barrel down fast enough, you're not going to maximize your barrel speed anyway.

The Sox seem to have an ability to maximize the outputs from compact lefties. Buerhle, Danks, Quintana, and maybe even Keuchel who was falling out of his success a bit the past two years.

I don't know why people think it's bat speed but it's not. A hitter loses his reaction time with age, not his bat speed as much. Guys can stay strong AF as they get older and maintain bat speed, but they become a twitch late when they react. I agree with you 100% btw; EE is a historically slow starter, but that's not what this is. His k-rate and swing and miss rate are way up. He's just lost that quick twitch reaction time he had. You never know when it's going to go but it is what deteriorates with age; not "bat speed." bat and barrel speed are kind of overrated in general.

One very small benefit of extending a guy for years during his arb years is you don't have nearly as much doubt about their intentions... they want you to be healthy and will do what is best for you in the long run. If it was a risk for Moncada to be out there sometimes and not on the IL then I think he would be. Sox aren't risking his future for a few games this year.

If it's chronic fatigue, you play him when he's feeling fine and you sit him when the soreness and fatigue is too much. There is no side or private work you can do to overcome that diagnosis as far as I know.

Yeah, I'm not sure what people do not understand. A decision like this is NOT Renterias to make in the first place. Let's say he was suffering from chronic fatigue, for whatever reason but say COVID to make people happy, he would test fine and there wouldn't be a lot of risk in him playing... but he'd be sore and feel lethargic for a month or two. Do you put him on the IL if there is no cure for what he's going through and the fatigue will just be there for a few weeks? No, probably ot.

Alex Colome
So far this has been the best year of Colome's career, but it will be his last year with the White Sox.

Hahn: Andrew Vaughn "could help the team this season"
Guys, the White Sox look amazing offensively and the best bat of the bunch, possibly, hasn't even joined the club yet. This... is....... amazing.

The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
Let's talk about Robert, because what he is doing is pretty incredible. On August 12th, Rick Renteria watched Robert finish off a 3/25 stretch with 11 K's. He was reeling; swinging at everything, and pitchers were taking advantage. Luis got a day of on the August 13th and 14th - in that time, he said he "figured it out" with coach. Plenty of players say things like that, but Robert doesn't just say them... he does them. Since that day, Robert is hitting 16/48 (.333) with 8 home runs, and four walks. He's raised his OPS from .816 to .960. When Luis Robert didn't change his approach and walk more last year, it was because he didn't have to. Luis reluctantly realized he can't swing at literally everything and he's already adjusted and he has destroyed the league. Robert said he figured it out and he meant forever. Pray for the league.

Hopefully Codi shook off that turbulence from that on and off flight to Minneapolis.

You can't drop a baseball on purpose. Dead ball. 1 out. Umps on the field blew the call terribly.
