8-17 GT: Tigers at Sox
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2020 Season in Review
It's maddening to see him committed 100% to first pitch. I know he's capable of identifying good and bad pitches - I've watched him spit on enough sliders in a 2 strike count already to know he identifies. He just thinks he can hit anything and everything and commits to swing regardless of location. He'll get embarrassed enough to change -

You see what happens when you work the count in your favor Luis? -

TiM sHoUlD hIt SeVeNtH! There's more to good at bats than drawing walks; Anderson knows how to hit and isn't an overly aggressive free swinger. -
He's had 35 PA's and he had no real spring training.

Yermin couldn't hit an off-speed pitch in camp to save his life. Also doesn't have nearly as good AB's as Collins.

Plesac and Clevinger Gone; For how Long?

This feels like they're done for the season. Trust is broken with teammates; no coming back from that this year. -
In SSS, Mendick EV is nearly 3 MPH less than Madrigal, but you say Mendick makes more quality contact. Interesting.
-
Well, that and the fact that when Mendick was 23 years old he was in A ball and Madrigal is in the big leagues.
-
gotta be torn. Only way he can't recover from a sprained thumb in 7 weeks.
-
Don't. Slide. Head. First. Into. First. Base.
-
Sprain thumb = 45 IL trip. Seems odd

Supposedly Cleveland was moving him to the bullpen regardless. I'm actually not sold on plesac. Nice start to the year but I don't think he's thst good. -

What about his video was well intentioned? He blamed everyone but himself for making a bad decision that he chose to make. He then blamed the media"?" For his own teammates calling him out.. My favorite was when he started to tell us that his mom is a nurse and his brother is diabetic so he knows how serious the disease is... which actually just makes him an even bigger d bag. -

Why? What makes Cleveland is their SP. Their offense is the worst in the league. -
So does anyone else think they're both gone for a while? Cleveland claims they weren't sent down for punitive reasons lol Plesac makes that dumb ass video, and then arrives to talk with the team with Clevinger today. They basically tell both of them to get lost after the conversation, which leads me to believe it didn't go well. How long will the Indians keep them off the big league roster? I think Francona's health issues paired with Carlos' really exasperated the issue in Cleveland and made these two look like even bigger morons.

Leadoff Man going forward - TA or Robert?

I'll start eating that crow when Montas eclipses 100 IP in a season, how bout that? -
Say what? MLB has handled this about as poorly as possible. The cardinals have played 5 games lol. They're going to play like 10 fewer games than other teams. The cardinals had this issue because MLB didn't have protocol preventing players from going out. Now a bunch of teams have to jam games in a short window to get the cardinals to like 45-50 games so they're being punished because the cardinals chose to go to a casino. If the USA wasn't a complete joke, baseball would be canceled for this many positives like it is anywhere else in the world. I enjoy watching as much as the next guy, but mlb has handled this well? Please.

Would you add a FA starter b4 2021, and who/why?

It's the same stat. Vertical drop measures the same thing. The baseball doesn't drop at an inconsistent rate; there's no such thing as late break in baseball. A break can be more intense due to the spin rate, but it won't break any later or earlier. Which is why carry is the same stat as measuring fastball vertical drop, just measured in a different way. -

Carry matters up in the zone because you have to get your hands up through the ball. When a hitter is dropping the barrel down on the baseball, you don't want a ball to be rising into the zone; you want it to be falling out of the zone. The "carry" doesn't mean a low fastball comes up for a strike, it merely means it maintains itself in the zone where it is very hittable. You want low pitches falling out of the zone, not coming up into it. -

Jack there's a reason no one wants their four seamer down in the zone anymore, and it's not because it's a good pitch to get backwards K's on. -

It's not really though, vertical drop has been measured since everything else started being measured. This is honestly nothing new; it's just that Fegan wrote an article about it today and now Jack believes it's the most important aspect of a fastball when it's not. You want to see why Cease's fastball doesn't generate enough swings and misses and K's: That's why. 1/2 of his fastballs aren't even competitive pitches. If -

yup. carry really only matters/benefits if you live up in the zone with your fastball too. -

And Max Scherzer misses a ton of bats and has below average carry... so um, maybe it's related to command? Throwing the ball where you want to is so much more important than anything else you mentioned. Jack, Cease had less carry last year by a good amount - well below league average - yet he got a whiff on 22% of his fastballs thrown. This year, Cease has gotten more carry and has gotten a whiff on 14.5% of them. I know you think you've found the secret solution to baseball pitching, but carry ain't it my man. -

That's a trick question, since you can't have elite carry without top tier spin rates... but I also don't think you can teach top tier spin (although the Astros have cheated somehow to do it). In one year already, Cease has taken his vertical drop from below average to above average. You saying that carry is more important than velocity is just nonsense though. Max Scherzer would like to have a conversation with you about that comment. Saying that carry is more important than Command; now that is even more batshit crazy. Command is the most important aspect of any fastball and it's not close. I use vertical drop as opposed to carry, but they are the same thing. -

What is easier to teach Jack, above average to top tier spin rates or carry?
