  1. I get it, and that's a fan mentality. Ricky needs to spread AB's out - give some guys more looks than others (like an Engel as he fights for that 4th OF spot) - and manage rest and etc for the starters. If I can think of one thing that means literally nothing in life, a spring training batting order might be at the top of my list.
  2. The White Sox should not care one bit about a game just because it's on television.
  3. Anderson Moncada Abreu EE Grandal Eloy Robert Mazara Madrigal Madrigal makes this team.
  4. Also Robert graded out better than pache defensively last year but people still love to imply pache is easily a better defender. Robert was the second best defensive player in milb last year.
  5. Eckstein had 17 career fWAR. If law thinks madrigal would have 17 career war and didn't put him in the top 100 he's a bigger dumass than I already thought. Law with Hunter Greene 30th still but doesn't have Madrigal ranked. Classic Law And you're exactly right. Law is stubborn both ways. Madrigal he didnt like in the draft and despite him having a very good year last year in pro ball, law will never change his mind or opinion.
  6. What Bummer did last year generating GBs at that rate and with that velocity has only ever been matched by zach Britton. Bummer is much more unique than many here are giving him credit for.
  7. Not really. If they want to possibly use bummer to close his arb prices could sky rocket. Colome just got 10 million alone. Nothing wrong with locking a price in on a guy with one of the most unique skill sets in the game for a reliever. Could he fall off? Sure. But if he doesnt hes worth much more than 13.5
  8. Huh? Relievers are worth more today than theyve ever been worth.
  9. Look at ron trying to pretend he thought of the preseason fluff before the guy who said it could be preseason fluff.
  10. I get Coopers reaction that a lot of these new age cameras are just tracking technique and verbiage he's been teaching for decades... but the difference is you can literally show him, track him, and teach him how he should feel when he's doing it right based on tech/cameras... and you can use the tools/equipment to better train the body to do it right. Cooper may have known this was a problem, but telling someone and teaching is different than being able to show them in slow mo detail and etc.
  11. Ricky: Tim, we're going to put you 6th because we don't think you can get on base at the 35% clip we want from our leadoff guy. Tim: But Skip, I had a .357 OBP last year? Ricky: Tim, we don't believe that was real and we don't think you're that good. Sorry. Signed, - Sox Talk's professional managers and leaders
  12. Everyone last year: Tim Anderson OBP sucks, his defense sucks, he's just an OK hitter and he won't improve. 2019: Tim Anderson wins batting title and is a 4 WAR caliber player Everyone before this year: Tim Anderson's production was fake, he will for sure get worse everywhere, he shouldn't lead off because even though he had a good enough OBP last year he won't this year because he's only going to get worse and sucks. 2020: Tim Anderson "Hold my Beer."
  13. One excerpt from the Fegan piece: Giolito’s relationship with Cease can seem like the closest and most directly instructional on the staff a times, but Giolito shared a clubhouse with López at Low-A Hagerstown as far back as 2014 when they were with the Nationals, and both have seen each other suffer through the worst years of their careers in Chicago. They’ve also known each other long enough that when López initially turned down Giolito’s invitation to train with him in Los Angeles, Giolito thought his teammate was beyond convincing and was shocked when he saw him at Mamba Academy this winter. “He said ‘Wow, you’re here bro!'” López recalled through team interpreter Billy Russo. “Maybe for me it’s good to get out of my comfort zone and try something different. I said well, why not, let’s give it a shot.” In Gio they trust.
  14. 2019: The big difference between these two is his glove arm doesn't get anywhere near as far out front as it did in 2019. He doesn't have quite as much extension on the back swing, but when he comes forward he's much more compact and doesn't fall off towards the first base side as much.
  15. There's no much history saying Engel hits anything well but for maybe outfield walls.
  16. It's a PR move to get the game national exposure in the middle of a long season where overall exposure to the game feels regional and localized. It's a good move, and has nothing to do with cheating and the average fan will not connect the two what-so-ever.... And Shoeless Joe DID NOT cheat or throw the World Series in the first place.
  17. Better glove, more power, 1-2% growth in walk rate, and a 30 point drop in BABIP, and he's still sitting with a similar avg/obp, but his OPS is higher and his fWAR is much higher with a ++ year with the glove.
  18. Moncada was the #1 prospect in baseball coming off one full season in the big leagues. Mazara was a top 20ish prospect coming off 4 seasons of big league play. The scenarios are nothing alike.
  19. It's literally nothing like that. Also, teams lose trades and give up on players too early ALL the time. I never understood the concept that if they want to give him up, hes no good.
  20. Assuming all teams know 100% more than a very educated member of the baseball public is also assuming the Colorado Rockies ceased to exist.
  21. Said he was going to be an elite defender this year after all the off-season work; I have learned to not doubt the guy when he puts in the work.
  22. The latest piece by Fegan about the pitching staff, technology, Cooper and more importantly Giolito was fantastic. Cease changed his delivery and looks a lot like Giolito; as he spent all off-season working with Giolito to fix his spin and balance issues. His grip issues and etc. His glove being far from his body through him off balance. Lopez, who had turned down Giolito's offer last off-season (to which Giolito said he felt he'd never come around) and worked out in DR, took Lucas up on the offer this off-season. He also went to learn about maximizing his spin, command and etc with modern new-age tech that Lopez wasn't a big believer in prior. Giolito also made changes; to his slider grip, and he worked all off-season to find that old 12/6 hammer's release point to throw it for strikes. And Carlos Rodon has been using all the new Sox tech to learn how to use his lower body more (he always stood so tall) to tech stress off his legs. This is obviously a spring training fluff piece in a way, but players believe when other players have huge turnarounds like Giolito. They bought in, and who knows how well it may benefit the team going forward.
  23. The Tim Anderson hater/doubters will eat crow yet another year. This year, Anderson will be even better than last. Bet on it.
  24. He certainly doesn't have better contact skills.
  25. Eloy is going to press the issue, but I think the handedness may lead to Grandal there followed by EE. I'd rather Eloy hit 4th, and I don't think handedness is as important anymore with the 3 batter rule. With Moncada 2nd, and Grandal 5thish, you could bat Eloy 4th and not have to worry about 3 consecutive righties.
