A Realistic Offseason
But his new delivery limits his leverage a bit because he doesn't get quite the same extension as he did when he threw really hard. He can repeat this delivery with much greater frequency, and he's found a way to generate enough power with his legs to recoup a lot of velocity he lost by being off balance and with his full extension delivery. That said, I think his velocity is where it is now because that's what his delivery allows paired with his effort. It doesnt mean its impossible, but it just feels less likely. Time will tell.

Velocity peaks younger than any other thing for an arm. You'll see some guys gain velocity as they change mechanics - sure - but it's not likely gio will ever start throwing 100 mph as he did as a free throwing 19 year old. Is it possible? Yes, but it's not likely.

Stras actually throws a lot of sinkers - bucking the league wide trend. He actually increased his sinker usage over the past couple years.
-
A Realistic Offseason
He topped out at 98mph even this year. It's not likely, nor is it a good idea, to average 96mph when your peak velocity is 98mph. A 3MPH reduction off peak velocity is pretty standard.

94.6; after his first 4 starts he was at 94.8.

94.8 is pretty much 95 Jack. I wouldn't expect much velocity change next year.

Says what? Sox got Giolito and you can give the credit to his high school coach, former dog walker or anyone else but the fact is the Sox executed his changes in action. They certainly have maximized giolitos arm talent. And while lopez has been inconsistent, no one can argue the sox are suppressing his stuff or limiting his arsenal based on organizational philosophies. The sox have done fine to maximize elite arms - the same cant be said for the pirates.

Cole or Strasburg?
Yankees dont overpay anymore. They will bid market value and certainly can be beat now. This isnt the 1990 yankees anymore. They are no different than other interested teams at this point. You should be more concerned with the lesser likely organizations overpaying than the yankees at this point.

Giolito lived up in the zone with his four seamer - as did Reylo. The Sox certainly are not sinker driven, lesser velocity, believers. That plan seemed to he individualized for Sale, and rightfully so as his arm hasnt held up since his full on drive towards maximizing velocity in boston.

Zack Wheeler Thread
1. I know, again, that people on this site love the Astros. That feeling is not exactly shared by the players and the union. 2. Income tax difference over the life of the contract would be roughly; 2.35 million. That doesn't cancel out the 15 million in extra dollars by any means. So my answer is, wheeler would sign the bigger offer as would most every free agent.

Well, yes we do but ok.

People really overvalue these draft picks. The odds a second round pick becomes anything close to an impact big leaguer is slim.

Clemens aged horribly until he got a certain kind of illegal substance enhancement. His career was falling off a cliff after 30.

Angels sign Rendon - 7yrs 245
Nightengale said on the podcast that the Sox will be major players for every marquee free agent; take that for what it's worth.

Angels sign Rendon - 7yrs 245
And the second part of the question: Where does Rendon see himself at 36? “Hopefully not playing baseball,” Rendon said with a laugh. Throw 200 at him for 5 years and see what happens if you really like him.

Angels sign Rendon - 7yrs 245
He doesnt want to play baseball past 35 years old. Rendon has hinted he'd prefer shorter bigger AAV because he doesn't want to play baseball into his late thirties.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
This is my hope as well. They were clearly upset about it, but the question is... upset enough to change your ways? Or upset that they couldn't convince others to conform to their ways.

All he said is we're going to be active. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Lol people just love to hate Kenny. I am one of them, but I see nothing wrong with this quote.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
Even his advantages in the draft were tied to outspending and overspending other teams. I've always thought Friedman and Beane were better than Theo because they could do it on a budget. That said, even with the advantages of overspending in the draft Theo was a great drafter of offensive talent. Him and his teams have excelled in identifying that talent.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
1. I am in no way implying he has no power. All positions require some deferal of power unless you're the owner. 2. Having confidence in yourself does not equal ignoring industry turnover trends. 3. I am not arguing he does not deserve blame for failures - he absolutely does. I'm stating that his successes do not dictate his job security which is a hell of a job to have.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
I'm not sure what this means, but most people in life would take job security (especially in their "dream job") over more perceived power. If the titles are the same, the pay is the same, but one job will hold onto you for decades while the other will throw you out at first sign of struggle... I think it's obvious which job I'd take.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
He's paid well, and has great job security. I have no idea why people think it's a bad job or that he should move on. He doesnt have to succeed to maintain his job title - that's a dream job in that industry with inflated turnover rates. Edit: I wish jerry was my boss ha

Yes, but most interested teams are interested up to a value I dont think wheeler signs for. Once the number begins to approach 100 million, the interested teams dwindle.

Rick Hahn's Resume as GM
I dont think he is emphasizing he is right, ftr. I am saying when he claims the organization is shaking stigmas, it's due to those changes being deemed neccessary by him.
