Coop and Searage are similar in that they fix guys mechanically. They're able to make bad pitchers decent. The Astros fix guys stuff so they're ale to make good pitchers great.

They didn't go out and trade for a bunch of high end pitching so they could turn around and pay a ton of money for high end pitching. They may sign/trade for a middle of the rotation guy but I think it's more likely they'll sign/trade for another back end/innings eater and count on the guys currently in the organization to step up.

8/24 Rangers at White Sox
He's a better conversion guy than Sergio Santos was.

I hate these god damn uniforms. I was wondering why Tim didn't make an attempt at that ground ball then I realized Tim was the umpire.

I can't believe that bum threw a CG.

I'm not asking him to hit one 20 rows deep. I'm asking him to hit a groundball to the right side to move a runner from second to third. Every professional hitter on the planet should be able to that. It's called baseball 101.

Yes a 34 year old slapdick should be able to hit a groundball to the right side any time he has to because that's his damn job.
-
The game thread
He's on this team to be a slapdick that doesn't strike out. If he can't be a slapdick that can move a runner from second to third then he has no reason to be on this team. SO that's my point.

That's McCannon to you, Mister.

If Jon Jay can't hit a groundball to the right side there is literally no reason why he should be playing.

I still can't believe the Rangers were able to steal Solak from the Rays. This is the type of deal Hahn needs to find but he would have to a. be creative b. self scout c. not over value his prospects. I'm not gonna hold my breath.

2020 MLB Draft Thread
I get it but unfortunately this is happening quite a bit now. Guys are getting bad advise and changing their swing to show more launch angle. There was a reason why he was the top guy going into the summer. He just has to get back to being that guy. If he doesn't then I agree I'm out but I'm willing to give him more time because he was so good.

That rule changed. A high school player is able to have an agent. If they don't sign a professional contract and go to a 4 year school they have to "fire" the agent then magically "rehire" them when they are again draft eligible. It's still really stupid but it's better than the previous farce that an 18 year old kid wasn't allowed to have an agent help them negotiate against professional negotiators.

Of course he does. All the top players have agents. They get recruited early at Perfect Game tournaments.

He has a great swing and incredible bat to ball skills when he doesn't get long. He consistently crushes balls when he stays short and quick to the ball but for some reason he tried to to separate and lift everything this summer and struck out at an alarming rate. It happens. He probably got bad advice from his agent (you need to show more power!). If he gets back to the guy he was he'll be a top 10 pick.

8/21 Games
I wasn't angry with the pick though I was really hoping for Griffin Conine. I think he's going to develop into a 20+ HR guy. He does a tremendous job of staying inside the baseball and he's going to learn what pitches he can drive out of the yard. It just takes a little time with his approach. Those doubles are going to turn into home runs.

8/21 Games
I really like his swing.

Crews did have a brutal summer but he's still my guy. He's the best hitter in the class and has history of hitting at big events. He has time this fall to get his head out of his ass and swing the bat like he can. He has to stop trying to hit home runs and concentrate on hitting missiles all over the yard. He does that and he's the guy going into the spring.

McCann has balls of stone. Calls the first curveball on a 2-2 count with 2 outs in the b9.

Just a dominating performance by Giolito. He's been a pleasure to watch this season.

Machado do-over
The Pads are going to be active on the pitching market but I'm not sure if they have it in them to hand out another big money contract. I think they trade for a pitcher or two which will also help break up the log jam they have in the minors.
