  1. Do you really think players playing together in college dictates MLB transactions?
  2. Yes, very stupid and it really needed to end. It was never the same after TJ Miller (Erlich) left the show.
  3. Have you watched Vice Principals? I thought it was better than Righteous Gemstones.
  4. And Greg will also get his wish and Tim Anderson will move to catcher. It will be like some 12 year old kid’s custom MLB The Show lineup.
  5. Wow, you don’t baseball much do you?
  6. That’s not official, just a guess by James Fox.
  7. They still need a right-handed complement to Mazara in RF. Since both Merkin and Steve Stone mentioned it recently, I don’t think the Sox will stick with Engel as that guy.
  8. I honestly don’t think the Sox could have gone wrong either way. EE gives you a good .850 OPS bat at DH on a short-term cheap deal and can back up Abreu at 1B. Castellanos would have also added a good bat but with some additional defensive flexibility since he can play the outfield (even if poorly) but he would have added more money and less flexibility with Sox prospects long-term. This move will basically lead to the question on what they do with McCann / Collins. Kevin Pillar and a couple relievers, including one flier minor league deal — Collin McHugh and Cody Allen? — should be next and that could wrap up the offseason early.
  9. Maybe. The Sox haven’t even officially announced the Keuchel signing yet even though Keuchel acknowledged it on 12/21 via his Twitter by retweeting a Lance McCullers congratulations tweet. https://mobile.twitter.com/kidkeuchy?lang=en
  10. James Fox of South Side Hit Pen is reporting that EE to the Sox is a done deal: https://www.southsidesox.com/2019/12/25/21037326/white-sox-edwin-encarnacion-whos-that-we-see-underneath-the-tree-its-ee And in spite of his Christmas morn tweet, with Encarnación conditionally signing with the White Sox, internally James is telling us that it’s a done deal, with “terms agreed upon.”
  11. Both Walker and Wood will go for short-term “prove it” deals with teams that will use them in their rotation so they can try again for a payday next offseason. I doubt either guy signs on to be relegated to a team’s bullpen. The Twins are the perfect team for them.
  12. Stammen isn’t even a bounceback candidate in this market. He’s one of the better options available. I’d rather see Hahn avoid spending big money on mid-30’s relievers and look for some diamonds in the rough on the cheap.
  13. The free agent options after Betances (who just signed) are so old and bad that I’d rather see Hahn sign a 2-3 fliers like Cody Allen and see if one pans out.
  14. It’s looking like EE is all but official and Castellanos probably isn’t happening. Next up is a right-handed outfielder and a reliever. I think Kevin Pillar makes the most sense. Decent splits against lefties and can play good defense in CF and RF. He can begin the season starting in CF and then platoon with Mazara in RF once Robert is called up. You then have Engel solely as a 5th OF defensive replacement that can hang out in AAA if and when he is needed.
  15. The only reason anyone could be upset about adding an .850 OPS DH like Encarnacion on an inexpensive, short-term contract is if they want to see Collins get some playing time. I am with Dick Allen and all for moving McCann for a nice reliever to free up the backup position for Collins. Even if McCann is the same guy he was last year (which I think is unlikely), he still won’t get much playing time with Grandal around. I would not trade Collins and his years of control and potential for a half season wonder in McCann. Sell high on the guy. I guarantee you we will regret not moving him by the middle of next season.
  16. Hector Gomez retweeted Incarcerated Bob so I am starting to question his “sources.”
  17. With Hahn always talking about winning and long term success, it would make no sense to move Collins over McCann. Sell high on the guy and watch him put up a sub-.700 OPS with another team.
  18. Agreed. I would not give up years of control and potential in Collins to keep McCann as a backup for one year at $5.6 million. McCann could easily turn back into a Detroit pumpkin and he’s not going to be with the Sox in 2021 regardless.
  19. How about his age, potential for decline, and inconsistency which I also mentioned?
  20. Agreed. But I also saw that the 2021 option is a player option, not a team option, so it’s not as good as I initially thought.
  21. I don’t even like Mazara but I’ll take his youth, potential upside, and mediocre consistency over a 32 year old who put up OPS’s of .725 and .652 before his “breakout” year last season.
